Scenes from the events surrounding the solar eclipse of 1868
Hosted by King Mongkut and attended by Western and Chinese scientific dignitaries of the day as well as high royal personnel.
18 August, 1868 - the village of Wa Po, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
Noted, that the trip cost King Mongkut his life as soon after returning to Bangkok he, and others, was diagnosed with a strain of Malaria that took his life in 4 days. The young Prince, and dynamic future king, Chulalongkorn was taken ill as well - his strength of youth fought it off. The principle heir and young prince was unofficially crowned king, under a regent, where his wisdom was sharpened. Becoming of legal royal age ....officially crowned as King of Siam
