    income Taxation query

    Does anyone know what the current income tax rates are.

    Brief overview, i started back to work on the 1st of october, i paid for the months of october, november and december 9245.00 per month for tax, just recieved my january payslip and the tax paid has jumped to 35735.00, my actual salary has not changed.

    I did ask HR but got given some dribble about being a new year blah blah blah....

    Any ideas, im not real happy atm, infact im rather pissed about the whole deal.

    Here's a link to the tax bands in Thailand for 2008, hope it's of some help. The tax year runs January to December.

    ::Personal Income Tax::

    Just a thought on your payments above, it looks like your company has averaged your income over the year, and taxed you at the lower tax band amount (Pure speculation on my part though ....)

    Thanks Sandmike, from what has been explained to me (by HR here), income tax is calcuated on a 12 months basis rather than a monthly basis which effectilvely puts me into the higher income tax bracket.

    Yes.

    Your allowances etc. count for the whole year, so because you only worked 3 months last year, your total salary earnt for the year minus the allowances, left much less to be taxed.

    Now you're in a new year, it's assumed you'll be there for the whole year, so the tax for each month is calculated for the whole years salary then divided by 12.

    If you were to leave before the tax year is up, then you'd get a rebate on overpaid tax.
