Permit needed for small streetside restaurant?

    Hi all.
In addition to the house we are planning, the wife wants more (big surprise!), and I'm cool w/ the request- something for her to do + any income is welcomed: a humble road-side eatery for the locals. It will be on her property (outside of Roi-Et), so no problem w/ land/property issues.

My one question is does this venture need to be reported to civil/zoning offices? I see so many little eat n' go shops (that's what she's going for), that I think they kind of fly under the radar. Plus her village is basically policed by its own people, so I doubt the BiB would come around asking questions.

    Thanks!

Ahh- an afterthought: Beverage license- better safe than sorry, so if she decides to sell Leo (or lao khao ), then some paperwork is obviously involved...

If you sell Lao Khao with herbs added it then becomes medicinal and no license is needed.
Sell it by the shot and make a nice fat profit.

Surely a pharmacist's license would be required?

Apparently not. Counts as a herbal remedy or sumfink.
As far as I know the law hasn't changed and it sells well in village locations

Good to know, thank you. I am more concerned with the OP- any advice on legalities? Or is it good enough to just set up shop ( plastic chairs, awning, table w/ propane cooker, couple of signs near the road, etc.) and call it good?

i'm sure once the operation is up and running, if any paperwork, payments or permissions are needed then before too long someone will roll up and inform you.

Go to the local Amphur and ask about a Small Thai Business license..... it's for businesses that will not exceed 2 million turnover and therefore VAT exempt.
This was legit about 8 years ago, don't know about now....... I am sure someone will be along shortly to argue the toss!

And fine you a sum eerily similar to your profits to date.
Thai law only applies sometimes. Unless there's a farang involved. Then it's gospel.

Pay nothing to anybody unless they come asking for it.
If they find you you might have to pay the "Tessakit" (local government)
if you're in bangkok in a hot spot (nana, cowboy) etc. 1000-5000bt/monh depending on how prime your spot.
If you're in back of nowhere - no more than 200bt per month

LOL Zoning laws? In Thailand? There are no zoning laws in Thailand except possibly in Bangkok.

As others have said it really depends on the compensation and complaining. If no others are complaining them go for it.

If others are complaining it really depends on who is doing the griping...

The truth is that in many small villages around Thailand no one really cares. But if you start to upset the apple cart, then yes; you can have a problem. TIT.

Not much of an answer, but each circumstance is different.
