It's structural, taking the load above. Looks like part of the facade, probably will be glazed over, the doors in the open frame.

Downside with tilt up panel construction is all the electrical and plumbing will be surface mounted. Some like the look, but it is a bugger to clean after a few years.

The welds on the build don't look like they are doing much. Makes me wonder what happens when an earthquake hits and they depart. We had some real shakers in Mae Taeng on our column and beam house held up great with no cracks.

    Day 3

Putting the concrete on the top of the 'Swallows nest'.

I found the stairs. Still in the process of being bodged.

Tilt slab is very stable, especially in an earthquake.,as the panels are free to move and flex.
thai post and beam would just crumble, as the internal bricks/blocks are not tied to the posts,(and we all know how poorly the post are made.)
Actually the posts and beams for our house are pretty impressive, and the infil bricks are tied to the posts with steel.

Pragmatic I'd hire an independent engineer to have a good look at that thing before paying the builder. No offense, but some of those pictures look frightening.

    Good luck to you.

BobR, it is not my building. I came across it whilst out cycling and thought I'd put its build on here as I knew 'prefabs' had been discussed before. I'm kinda busy at the moment due to my fitting Upvc windows in my house. I'll try to go get some update photo's as soon as I can.

It looks OK, it's a pretty simple structure.

Yes I remember it well just before we was about to build our place in the sticks .

Was heartbreaking to see someones hard earned going to shit .

I can't remember exactly but I believe it was a franchisee operating under one of the big named build companies in Thai ,, I believe it was up in our area ( ish ) to Sakhon Nakhon ??

BTW Harry thanks for those links , it was very interesting browsing through that lot ,, I just wish something simple like that was available to us in Thai at the time of our build .

Infact for someone much younger than me and with a bit of backing + marketing expertise I would imagine there is a ready market waiting in Thai for many like myself who live with the wife in their home Countries and would like a nice affordable visiting pad erected on the family plot .

The builder was " PB house ". It was the sub contractors doing the build under PB house's name.

In the real world one could claim against PB house but in this shit hole no hope of that. So at the end of the day the quality of the build is purely in the hands of the contractors, if they fuk up it's tough shit.

Take your chances Building in Thailand easy as that.

We had to get the Hand Bags gaffer totally painted in and out plus add a few other things. Quite a big job.

I could of done it but did not want the travel each day.

Quotes came in and we took one at 50 K, her money not mine.

I was shitting that Somchai would do an inferior Job, use cheap paint and generally do a shit job.

Somchai and his wife done an outstanding Job using top quality interior and exterior paint. All other work including Electrical was spot on.

Dodged a bullet on that one. It was easily worth the 50 K for their outstanding work and quality job.

Could of easily went the other way.

It appears to be a cinema. As of yesterday men are working on the facade. I'll go get some photo's tomorrow.

It appears to be a cinema that is going to be used for educational purposes, as far as I'm aware. The contractors left it in its basic state for 4 months prior to fitting it out.

Not a problem. One concern I came up with is that there are no toilets.

I'm unsure if they're going to fit seating or it's squatting only.

I'm reliably informed that every rural Amphur in Thailand is to have one of these prefab cinemas installed. It's to allow rural folk to watch block busters without traveling to the city.
