Those who experience power outages. How long is average?

longest has been 8 hrs but that is very rare .
2-3 hrs seem to be the norm.

I'm in the wrong country.........but am in the midst of yet another 8-hour scheduled outage. One or two of these a week for the past month. And a bunch of 1 or 2 hour unscheduled ones. Really getting to be a pain...

We often (as in fortnightly) get outages that last less than 15 minutes.

OK so we have battery backup for the computers but the router goes down so we can't do much apart from feed the pigeons.

Up in Isaan I have found outages to be between 15-30 minutes. If over 30 minutes I usually have the wife call the EGAT to find out what is happening as usually it means work is being carried out or major problem - then it might be 8-4.
Overall outages here are fewer then when I was living down in Bangkok/Hua Hin

The power goes off, or I suspect cut off, around here during heavy thunderstorms. Stays off for just a few minutes and rarely an hour. Other than the rainy season, no outages.

cuts started today, usually only upto 1/2 hour, around here for last few dyas its been the water.

We've got power outages every day, 99% lasts for less than 1s (I would say about 500-600ms), 0,5% lasts up to 15 mins and the odd 0,5% lasts over 5 hours. Longest we've had was about 18 hours (at night).

I'm "lucky" to own a laptop computer, those less fortunate having a combination of desktop without emergency generator (forgot the official name of this thing) will lose a lot of work.

If you hear a 'boom' just after the lights go out, usually a couple of hours.

If it just goes out and stays out without flickering or your hearing a 'boom', it will last anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of days.

Traditionally, in country settings - depends on situation and circumstances.
Time of the year has much to do with power outages.....frequent or not.

Amazingly, it usually isn't more than a couple of hours.
There are the rare occasions that such inactivity will last 24 hours.

In rural Surat it used to be quite bad. Several outages per week lasting for several hours.
Since the local villages all had upgraded pylons and cabling last year, we get one or two per week for about one hour.

I have found that just about anything relating to electrickery can happen when residing in a village of deepest Isaan.

It can be the foulest thunderstorm in christendom, yet one might only experience the tiniest flickering of a xmas tree light. In great contrast it can be the fairest of fairest days, with no sign of even the slightest breeze yet the whole village will be without power for several hours.

It's one of life's greatest mysteries and unfortunately appears to be unique to SEA.

In recent years it has become a contest of wits with EGAT's finest. Those mean bastards realising that the World Rugby Union Final or Champions League Final is about to be screened would deliberately down the power just to raise the temperature, not only in my house but in my bloodstream.

I am not normally the pushy sort but on matters of importance such as these i have had occasion to phone EGAT's emergency contact number threatening to send them a bill for recompense should i need to drive to the nearest functioning town and spend the night there in order to watch one of the most important sporting spectacles of the year, perhaps even decade.

In the past my extremely polite and kind requests have resulted in some postive action yet i fear that at this very moment they are planning their Coup de grace.

The Ashes series will no doubt be at the top of their agenda.

Black-outs are mainly in the wet season and last 1-2 hours on average.

Brown-outs (voltage below 200V) are more common and last 3-4 hours on average, again in wet season.

When you hear a boom its a transformer blowing up, usually caused by a buildup of dirt getting wet and shorting it out or a snake on the terminals and takes about 2 hours to replace in the daytime

After the last typhoon, had a 28-hour outage. And my electric bill will be unchanged, or more, at the end of the month.

Used to get a few in Bangyai. Could last anything from a few seconds up to an hour. Finaly went out and invested in 3 torches and two LED lamps. Since parting with the cash Bangyai has never had a power cut since.

i think I recently said about an hour a week.

I take it all back. I was away on Sunday and a mate suggested I get a small generator. I said I don't need one.

When I got back a hot sweaty GF said Sunday no power for 8 hours.

Monday - No power for 8 hours.

Tuesday - No power for 6 hours.

Wednesday - No power for 5 hours

Thursday - No pwer for 2 hours.

I take it all back. Average fokked and I am looking at generators. Just enough for lights, fan and a toaster.
