Does anyone have a sewing machine collecting dust?

Sewing machines can be the kind of things that are bought because they seem to be a good idea at the time, but are left sitting in a cupboard like the proverbial white elephant.

I know I get get the lady down the road to sew thing for next to nothing, but it's for craft-type things so I need a machine. I know I can buy them new fairly cheaply, but thought if anyone has one just lying around and may as well get rid of it, it would be good for both of us.

I don't need anything fancy, just a basic model.

there is not to forget, that electric sewing machines need maintenance - also when not used... so if pulled out every other year, most break down after a few minutes anyway...

if anyone has a treadle, not completely destroyed, i would be interested...

Not if you buy Singer and store it right. Ours is 20 years old, is used about once a year and we have never had a problem. Bought in the states and brought in. We have to convert it from 110 to 220. Nary a problem one.
I would say yes, but my wife is a pack rat. We still have a lawnmower, and two mountain bikes that were destroyed by the flood but she will not let go of them. I tend to keep shit as well, but she is the champion.

I also had a Singer for about 30 years used occasionally. Bought in UK and dragged around the world with me, and never had a problem. I used to give it a good blow out every now and then (gave me unreal headspins). I gave it to a friend in Aus when we came here and 6 years on she's still using it.
