I'll be moving up by Bang Mot/Central next week, just wondered if anyone else knows the area well: good restaurants, markets for the missus, bars for me, car servicing, delivery places, etc.
Any thoughts would be great.

There is a big bar around there looks like a Dutch windmill, probably a cloggy version of the big German Bar on Narathiwat/Rama 3
^ I saw that on my way back from Central; looks interesting; might have some different beer and food. I'll be giving it a try out.
I've just moved there, haven't sussed it out yet so would also like to hear whats about. So far Zen in Central Rama 2 has been the best place I've eaten and the Carefour on Ekkachai road is better than the rama 2 one. Went to the Mall Bangkae today and it was a bit better than Rama 2 as well.
Most of my friends reckon that Central Rama II is pretty average; Central PinkLao is better, ThaPra is better... But, it's alright, seems to be plenty of interesting shops; only been the once though.
BigC is local and cheap.
I wonder if Burger King or Subway deliver up Rama II way? (probably not) Did you see either of these at Central Rama II?
Went often to see the monkeys near a "Sarin" village. Be carefull some of them can be quite agressiv and dangerous, had fun with them most of times...
Makro is good for shopping if you have a big family.
The Petchkaserm Road has 2 Carrefour and 2 Big C's
There is a market that claims to be like Chatuchak somewhere around
Yeah a Makro and a Foodland on my way home, along with the BIg C, will look after my food shopping needs.
Any ideas on location? Sounds interesting.Originally Posted by forreachingme
Before we bought the house I phoned Chef XP to ask if they could deliver that far and they said yes it would just take longer. Haven't tried yet.Originally Posted by Bettyboo
I reckon its the one on Ekkachi just before the turning to Bang Bon 1. There's a market there that really fucks up traffic.Originally Posted by Bettyboo
Haven't heard of that one, so quickly checked the website: ChefsXP.com - NO mark-up food delivery clicked on the restaurant list and found 104 restaurants. 103 are currently closed! Sunrise Tacos is the only one that's open. On the up-side I do like Mexican.
Probably more open at a better time of day. I reckon I'll order from them from time to time, so thanks for the idea.
I think their delivery guys stop at 10 or 10.30 anyway.
"Beer Holland" as it's known... depends what your in to, but I found it really lacked atmosphere.
There's a few smaller local pubs on the Bang Mod Hospital side of Rama II Rd which when they get a few people in, with a local acoustic musician, sometimes provide for a very enjoyable night.
(Don't ask me for the names of those pubs... by the time I walk out of there, I've normally forgotten my own name)
^ Only a matter of time before we meet there then, though we may not realise it; just look at each other like a couple of drunk fools...
I'm very close to Bang Mot; soi 39.
Maybe... I used to have a girlfriend on Soi 43 (I think)... where ever the Ford dealership is on the corner.
If we do meet, we would probably be the only farangs in the place.
Si, if you used to have a g/f on soi 43 are you avoiding this side of Bkk now?
I know a good bar not far from the Mall Bang Khae its called 70s until now - 3 bands a night, fairly decent food... Its a great party pub when it has a few people in
^ thanks for that mediaman; it's only a matter of time...
Any plans to move back to Bangkok?Originally Posted by The Fresh Prince

I started in Thonglor (7 or 8 years ago), then Onnut, PhraKanong, PinkLao. Now, up to Rama II, not so far from work (40 mins) and only 90 mins from Hua Hin, a bit longer to Kanchanaburi... I've got a nice, and very very peaceful house; 4 beds, very big garden on an end plot, so I'm looking forward to getting away from noise.
Not really, though I wouldn't mind an apartment in town to crash at when I'm too drunk to driveOriginally Posted by Marmite the Dog
I know there's another gym thread at the moment but are there any good gyms in the area? I don't mind if its on Rama 2, Ekkachai, Kallaprapruk or Kanchanapitsek.
Does Central Rama 2 have one? does it have a cinema? I was there last night, I should have checked really
Found it and going tomorrow. or later today, depneds how you look at it.Originally Posted by forreachingme
Its called sanamluang 2 and looks pretty good from the thai websites that the wife has showed me. It's got an RC airfield either next door or in the compound so it looks like my helicopters will get dusted of and refurbed tomorrow as well.
The wife wanted to go to a party on koh san for halloween. I pissed and moaned about driving her there but it turns out it's bloody quick. Just go down Kanchanaphisek and take the Pinklao turning, straight up to Pinklao bridge and bobs your uncle.
I was back on the sofa in 40 mins.
^ I thought he was Scottish?
^^^ You did well to avoid Jarunsanitwong, FP...
You just fly straight over the top of it. Mind you it was 11pm when I took her down there and 4am when I picked her up so there was no traffic.Originally Posted by Bettyboo
^ Once you're over the flyover (coming back) and past Central Pinklao, then where do you turn left to head towards Rama2? I haven't been that way before. Because I'm not too far up Rama2, I stay the Bkk side of the river then head straight up WWY.
