Very good question. Actually the answer is primary school thinking. Think of Thai logic and there you have it but if one is armed with the good oil one can beat the system.

Tiss true that some rooms are horrible only because of a shit paint job and bolliks furniture but some are perfectly acceptable as long as you don't take the cheapest room and are prepared to look at others if the one they show you don't appeal.

also one is on the money if you take into consideration the price of the room and the convenience of being on the sky train route.

In my 30 plus years of traveling I've stayed in thousands of rooms at all different price levels and the Nasa is far from the bottom of the barrel maybe not for you with your family but for a couple or single its fine for the 750 baht.

Next time I go back I'm going to have a gander at the top rooms and will report back.
Agreed Tel, if you weigh up things overall, and I've stayed at dozens of places in Bangkok around the 1000-1500 price range. Nasa Vegas is a bargain. It's not dirty, it's secure, the security in the lobby do keep their eyes open, there's always a taxi outside (not rip-off) and it's an ok location. Most taxi drivers know it.

I ended up here last year because I'd landed at the airport still pissed from the flight and wanted to get somewhere fast and nearby.

Got to love Teak Door as we got so many flexible and talented punters walking the halls.

A pic I took in 2002. Note the as yet unbuilt skytrain.

I rented a room here in 2003 for 6 months after an initial stay at the hotel. I was still in the main block, and they had separate lifts for hotel / apartments. But it seems they have moved all apartments across the road now, as the lifts are now hidden just off the lobby near the newspaper reading area.

Urm, I'll think I'll pass on that sort of education and leave it up to the experts such as yourself.

All the amenities worked flawlessly and the water was hot and strong which was a bonus. Sat TV was good, fridge cranked and nice big bed plus fully serviced everyday by friendly smiling staff. A/C was spot on also. The good vibe in this hotel more than made up for the 5 year olds that painted and furnished the rooms.

^Could've at least taken your thing off th bed!
Stayed at NV 3 times and have to admit that yes, it is cheap and cheerful but away from the bright lights of Bangkok. Been on the new Airport Link and it's runs 4 inches away from the Nasa Vegas building.
You can actually wave to people on the 4th floor if your that way inclined (and the curtains are open.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Bottom line seems to be that apart from aging one, Nasa Vegas is an ok place that you could do a lot worse than.

Don't forget that also, if you're stuck for a drink at 4am, their lobby restaurant is open 24hrs to the public.

    ^

The room I had was OK, that photo is a shocker for sure and really makes it look horrible.

The ladies came every day changed all the bedding, replenished the bath amenities and vacuumed the carpets which where in good condition. The fridge was choka full with all sorts of goodies if one wanted them..all appliances worked perfectly.

Its just the shitty paint job and colors that drag those rooms down and its beyond comprehension why the management don't make an effort to pick up the paint brush.

I mean it would cost them piss all and the reward for effort would be sound.

When one searches out opinions of this hotel 99% of the time its the rooms people are complaining about. The rooms are fine but its just the paint scheme and basic furniture that drags them down.

I been coming to Thailand 25 years and I recon I'll never understand the mentality of the Thais.

It would be so easy and cost effective to overhaul those rooms yet the owners make no effort.

    Got me foked.

Urm, Picked up a slapper that night , she turned out to be so ugly I locked her in my bag and covered it with the towel hoping I was only dreaming.

Gotta stop drinking all that German beer mate as it clouds my judgment.

That hotel is only a 10 minute ride away from Thong Lor and Ekkamai and some great nightlife Terry.

Also 15 baht 20 minute journey from the airport.

That would be a great place to spend a first night I reckon after a long haul flight

Someone will appreciate your thread. have a green

Ps. Whats under the towel?????? Ok just read that post. Hmmmm

Extremely observant Pat, never leave home without the planet even after all these years of traveling.

Use it extensively for info when I'm out in the far reaches of Thailand and its served me well.

Be foked without it matey as I'm only in the city a short time before I head out again.

Soon I'll be back and renting a car to tour the far north, The Planet will be with me.

    They must do.

Nasa has its faults but it serves its purpose, and it's not a dirty place in any way.

I walked across the street to the Family Mart one evening, and the security guys from Nasa were sitting nearby sharing a bottle of whisky with plastic cups, ice and soda. They recognised me and jovially offered me a cup.

    Who was I to refuse?
