Agoda seems to have the best deals on hotel rooms in Bangkok. I've used them for years and compared them to every new website I can find, and they always seem to come in with the lowest price.
I've also never had any problems with their booking system or vouchers.

You just aint looking hard enough. Found many sites that beat Agoda.

dont think there are any near by,it's more of a cheap hotel guesthouse area .
There are a several 5 stars hotels on the river banks ,with fantasic balconies
nearby is a pier where you can catch a river boat to near the khaosan road area.or go by taxi
eg Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok

Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok

Peninsula Bangkok

all look nice , -from the outside anyway....,
