    Bangkok illegal Street Racing

I've seen this quite a few times before, usually on a Saturday night but I suppose because of the holiday they decided to have it last night.

I only had the camera on my phone so excuse the picture quality.

It all starts off with just a few bikes converging in the center of the road and beeping their horns at about 2.30am.

You can see a lot of them starting to line up along the side of the road near the top of the picture.

More and more keep arriving and before you know it, traffic is completely fucked.

Now, they have completely closed the road. You can see at the top of the pic that they've formed a 'U' shape blocking the road, with spectators sat on bikes drinking and passing bets on the races, this is their start line.

This isn't a quiet Bangkok back street. This is Henry Dunnit junction on Rama IV.

Things are in full swing now and I'd guesstimate that there are over 300 bikes here now.

Every half an hour or so they'd all get spooked and bugger off at the same time but then they'd reconvene 10 mins later.

I've watched it before where 4 or 5 coppers turn up and try and take on the mob but they only end up catching 1 or 2 of them.

So I thought it would be funny to call the police. The idea was to get some good shots of them fleeing and hopefully a few shots of some of them getting arrested.

But, my phone call to the police was pointless. They said that they would be too outnumbered so there was no point in them coming.

I decided to take to the street to try and get some closer shots!

They were doing drag racing, burn outs and wheely competitions.

Quite a few of these 'Boy Racer' cars started to show up and they were all racing on the Rama IV road.

They were all kitted out with Turbo's and dump valves which made it all sound really cool.

All the bikes that were racing were supped up with bigger engines and really skinny tires like on a racing push bike.

There was a really hot chick on the back of that Fino but he started pulling away when I was taking the photo so we were left looking at this munter

There's a video to come of the bikes taking off right on the start line. I'll post that later when we work out how to get the footage off my mates phone. (his bluetooth is buggered and the usb cable isn't working right now)

Happens all over the world FP. except most places the cops aren't a lazy bunch of tossers as they are here, so they make an attempt to control it.

This was on the news on the television this morning. A lot of questions being asked as to why the police response was almost non existant. Maybe they were busy elsewhere in connection with the ASEAN meeting ?

    Nice pictures by the way.

They (the male bike riders) obviously have just picked up their girlfriends from Pat Pong (after a night on the poles and their backs) and are racing against each other for the wedge that has just been handed too them by those girls.

Crazy pricks and yes the BiB can do nought about it.

There was no need for the word 'almost' in that statement.

It took me 2 beers before I got the balls. There were no accidents at the scene but I've got no idea after that. I've seen them have plenty of accidents previously on the way home when they come tearing down Rama IV at on coming traffic

A couple of years ago the Minister of silly c*^ts proposed they legalize it at times so the boys could "let off steam".

    Well safe...

Another score for the boys in blue. Most are asleep by that time. Need a bunch of helicopters and nets. Keep then in the clink till December, charter a freighter and dump them on an ice lake somewhere with the toys they ride, especially with those thin tires. Let them ride to their hearts content in their bangkok clothes. Up there where they club the baby seals would be perfect.

Hell I will approach an American cable network for the reality show rights.

The tires they were using looked only just bigger than an inch wide. I've never seen skinnier tires on a bike.

Thai thing, less contact with the road. Only purpose is to race. Think if you lived there and the noise. I hear them racing on Song Prapha road all the time. I live 3 kilometers from the road. Sleep in an insulated room with nice windows and have the air on. Hate the sound of a 125 cc bike revved up. At least get a bike a and not a sewing machine on wheels.

    Good pics.

Read that sometimes the girlfriends are used as prizes, the mark of a good, sought after girlfriend is one who'll be loyal enough to donate herself to the cause and give herself to the winner for a few hours if her boyfriend loses.

Which I would imagine get people shot due to face etc.

    All good fun anyway.

It was nearly 7 years ago.

I went up there for the first time in years a few months back. I was amazed at the size of the road. When i lived there it was a small 2 lane road with a klong running down one side.

thats why we are so happy here through the military the infrastructure out here is second to none. On a grid in a way and mostly big wide double wide roads now. Easy drive with not a problem ever to my kids school, and then backtrack to my job.
