Brilliant! Anarchy on the streets of Bangkok. F the police.
Cool video.
I've been awakened in my Khlong Toei hotel on numerous occasions by those noisy fuckers ripping up the street at 3-4 am.
Damn! Who moved it? Have we got a new mod who's addicted to moving my threads?

Great stuff FP,
I just want to add some perspective to this thread as to how close the street racing happens to the main police headquarters in Bangkok.
Initially when I posted this thread, I was worried that I was gonna get one of our police chiefs in trouble for not responding to the call, but after a chat tonight with my Thai mate who dialed the number and spoke to them, he said he just dialed the public number and they were the guys who didn't come out. So fuck um.
Its one of those things that I just find amazing. You've got 300+ bikes + people and they've completely stopped traffic. Your totally surrounded and the police say they cant help. Luckily they're nice guys that let you take pics.
Can you imagine this happening in a main street in London or L.A. Yes the police would come out, they may not be able to stop the event but at least they would control any side skirmishes like arguments over money or chicks.
Oh and BTW, I also spoke to a few of the guys who were involved in the drag racing tonight and they didn't just loose their chicks but they lost their bikes too
Their chicks only went for a shag but their bikes are gone for ever.
That is a great live video clip! I am just trying to figure out how to provide regular "live street racing" from all over Asia......and feed it into international satelite television network! The armchair viewers in the dying economies where motorbikes are all but banned would just love it! The time frame 3.00am Saturday and Sunday is prime Western viewing time..... It needs some serious rescources, but there would be serious money available and with say serious cash prize hand-outs it would become "huge"! Needs some mobile bike cameras like the "tour de France"
The odd visit from the Police would make it even more attractive.
Where else can you find this much colour, noise, excitement, risk taking and absolutely "hot Chicks" ?
Don't you mean a couple of minutes?Originally Posted by Chairman Mao
Should get a couple of us down there on proper bikes one night. There'd be lots of pissed off Thai tossers with no chicks.
If thems the prizes, it'd be the slowest bike race in history.Originally Posted by Bangyai
that video is hilarious, like watching monkeys in a zoo
fucking love the sync in the departure, with one guy going and the other brain dead Thai staying there with no clue !!!
I think you'd end up looking pretty stupid MtD...Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog

Also I think he only started biking about 6 months ago. He'd get laughed out the arena!
Not too mention the respective riders.these bikes are super light and achieve max speed very quickly whereas your bikes are big and heavy

Good thread Princey and thanks for getting out amongst it.
I remember when the bike racers gathered at the Asoke intersection and before the BTS was there and the old Seafood Restaurant was on the corner.
They would race along the road in front of the Queen Sirikit Centre and then disappear into Klong Toi slums with the police hot in pursuit on their clapped out bikes.
Looks like the BiB have given up the ghost these days.
A lot of people have been telling me about the old 'Asoke' Races.
Yep and in those days, and when I was still a relative newbie to Thailand I was amazed about seeing these Thai blokes picking up their girlfriends after their night of shagging at Soi Cowboy and then off for some drag racing.Originally Posted by The Fresh Prince

Do you want it downstairs in the hall or upstairs in the bedroom! You just can't buy old British comedy!

I reckon he could be right madjbs. It's all about power-to-weight ratio's and some people might be underestimating how quick those little bikes are (although that being said I've no real idea myself either).
And in this sort of racing it's all about quickness not top-end speed. To put it another way I would've been pretty confident that my old VFR400 could've easily beaten Marmite's bike (a 750 I believe?).
