    Song Kran in Australia

William and I are planning to wander down to Darling HArbour in Sydney today to experience some much missed thai culture (and food!). Its autumn in Australia right now, so it can be warmish, and then cold, so i really hope that there is not too much water being thrown around.

    info

    13th April, Songkran Festival, Sydney

Would you like to celebrate New Year and Water Festival with Thai people?

Don’t hesitate and join Songkran Festival in Darling Harbour, Tumbalong Park next Sunday 13th April 2003 and you won’t regret it. It will be held between 10a.m. and 5p.m.

By visiting the “ Songkran “, you have a chance to enjoy authentic Thai food, craft and performances and special atmosphere of water throwing.

April is month of the long-week celebration of “ Songkran “ festival in whole Thailand.

For sure don’t miss this out next Sunday at Tumbalong Park.))

so we went over to Darling Harbour to take in a bit of Thai culture

    usual Thai dancing

    the girls were actually OK

    Then there was making merit

a fair number of people around

but KW and I had gone to see some of the Thai culture we miss - the Singha beer girls!!

although, to be honest, we were not too sure they were all "girls"

and the food stalls were typically Thai run

    still, lots of yellow

and a certain poster made sure he got himself a nice Singha beer hat!!

as we were leaving we saw this sign

any guesses who we thought of?

you forget to mention, and I dont know how they did it, but they managed to find that screechy microphone lady to sign during the dancing also....

    Was forced to wear it!

Anyway, the final tally of time spent becoming cultured today....

Travel - (walking the streets of sydney then ferry across the harbour) - 1 hour
Thai culture - possibly 1 hour
Pub watching rugger - 2-3 hours

    I think William photochopped it!

(I know i did that recently to a pic of myself that the wife took that made me look a bit too fat)

Oh, and not a single bucket of water nor water pistol was to be seen.

And the singha beer that we drank cost $5 each!

    ^ thai culture, aint it?

there was a couple of old gits with their young girlfriends, but mostly it was small groups of thai's and then farang families only.

This event was outdoors, for the sake of hiring a couple of large tents or marques they had the entire thing rained out.... everyone left in a matter of 10 minutes....

Cannot imagine the stall holders with extra stock on hand would be awfully happy.
