Song Kran in Australia

William and I are planning to wander down to Darling HArbour in Sydney today to experience some much missed thai culture (and food!). Its autumn in Australia right now, so it can be warmish, and then cold, so i really hope that there is not too much water being thrown around.

well, it got rained out, didnt it!

so we nicked off to the pub instead.

so we went over to Darling Harbour to take in a bit of Thai culture



usual Thai dancing



the girls were actually OK







Then there was making merit


a fair number of people around



but KW and I had gone to see some of the Thai culture we miss - the Singha beer girls!!



although, to be honest, we were not too sure they were all "girls"



and the food stalls were typically Thai run



still, lots of yellow



and a certain poster made sure he got himself a nice Singha beer hat!!



as we were leaving we saw this sign

you forget to mention, and I dont know how they did it, but they managed to find that screechy microphone lady to sign during the dancing also....

Anyway, the final tally of time spent becoming cultured today....


Travel - (walking the streets of sydney then ferry across the harbour) - 1 hour
Thai culture - possibly 1 hour
Pub watching rugger - 2-3 hours

Oh, and not a single bucket of water nor water pistol was to be seen.

And the singha beer that we drank cost $5 each!

there was a couple of old gits with their young girlfriends, but mostly it was small groups of thai's and then farang families only.

This event was outdoors, for the sake of hiring a couple of large tents or marques they had the entire thing rained out.... everyone left in a matter of 10 minutes....

Cannot imagine the stall holders with extra stock on hand would be awfully happy.

How many people would you say were there?

Not as many as I thought there would be, several hundred perhaps.
