Mascagni, intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana
...but name that sheer genius film in which the opera features, and where the intermezzo is the closing music.
Raging Bull and also Godfather III.
Which would you call sheer genius? Both I would venture.
The inclusion of Cavalleria Rusticana in Godfather III mirrors part of the Godfather III storyline. When Vincent bites Joey Zasa's ear he is signalling a fight to the death which also features in Cavalleria between Turiddu and Alfio, an opera based in Sicily and which was the subject of the performance that Michael went to see his son Anthony performing in.
I see fish. They are everywhere. They don't know they are fish.
Always preferred the Russians. It's interesting to compare the different versions of musical performances of the same piece, so easy now. This Prokofiev sonata is one I have liked since the 60's

Rebbu I don't remember anyone trying to take the piss on the Reggae thread, so why do it on here?
My god this shit (so far on this thread) isn’t even fit for elevator music. God damn old folks home here.

OK how about one of England's finest composers with music for Queen Mary's funeral in 1695
Definitely not for elevators, but good enough to be played again for Henry Purcell's own funeral just a few months later.

of course there's this Ron Goodwin classic...
I attended the London premiere of this in the Barbican.
Like.
Vaughan Williams is the pick of the English for me (Andrea Colombini brings some Italian passion to it, which adds I think)
this should be fitting for this thread
