...but name that sheer genius film in which the opera features, and where the intermezzo is the closing music.

Which would you call sheer genius? Both I would venture.

The inclusion of Cavalleria Rusticana in Godfather III mirrors part of the Godfather III storyline. When Vincent bites Joey Zasa's ear he is signalling a fight to the death which also features in Cavalleria between Turiddu and Alfio, an opera based in Sicily and which was the subject of the performance that Michael went to see his son Anthony performing in.

OK how about one of England's finest composers with music for Queen Mary's funeral in 1695



Definitely not for elevators, but good enough to be played again for Henry Purcell's own funeral just a few months later.
