As I wind down my time in Thailand I wanted to share some pics from some of the bike trips I've taken.
My first five years in country I hoofed it or took public transport, the last five I had four bikes and had a blast ridding around Thailand. Made several trips from BKK/Pattaya to Chiang Mai, a couple times on 'The Mini Beast", my trusty Honda 100 CZi
Small bikes will get you there, it just takes a bit longer.
RT 109, heading east after a night at Fang. A good argument for always traveling during the day
If I hadn't spent so much money on palatial estates, I would have bought a CBR500..
This is the Lake at Phayao. Great little city and If I would have had it to do over again, I'd have tried living there for a couple of years.
Funny how Thailand can be a small place. I was ridding to Mae Sai and stopped at one of the ubiquitous road side hotels, 350 baht for an individual bungalow and free coffee!
The next morning I met a German guy there, we had a nice chat about bikes, then we each headed out. About a month later I saw him in Phayao! I asked him for an el cheapo hotel and he guided me to where he was staying, a clean but basic room for 250 baht. He rode a Honda Phantom with over 70,000 kms on it and was hoping to 100,000 on her before buying another second hand bike.
He based himself in Pattaya but said he was on the road 'a lot.' I asked him how long this bike trip would be. He thought for a moment then allowed:
"About six months, maybe a bit longer..."
