STAFF TRAVEL NOTICES
29 October 2011
In response to the damaging industrial action by the Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA), the Australian International Pilots Association (AIPA) and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) and their members, Qantas and Q Catering will lock out employees working in Australia to be covered by the proposed new agreements being negotiated by these unions.
This lockout does not commence until 8pm (AEDT) on Monday 31 October and will continue thereafter until further notice.
- Until the lockout commences, all employees will be required at work and will be paid as per normal operations.
As a precautionary measure, we will ground the entire domestic and international Qantas fleet from 5pm (AEDT) on Saturday 29 October. QantasLink, Jetstar, Jetconnect, Cobham, Express Freighters Australia and Atlas Freighters will continue to operate as per normal.
- Once the lockout commences, those employees who are locked out will not be required at work and they will not be paid.
This is a difficult and painful decision and one that has not been made lightly. But we regard the lockout as a necessary response to the industrial action organised by the unions and their members. It is the only form of protected industrial action available to us as an employer and we are doing this to reach a resolution.
