Air india passengers marooned at Gatwick

Gatwick Airport: Air India passengers stranded on plane
    BBC

Gatwick Airport The Air India flight was diverted to Gatwick Airport at about 08:00 BST

Passengers have been stranded on a plane at Gatwick Airport for more than eight hours after fog caused their flight to be diverted.

The Air India flight was on its way from Mumbai to Heathrow Airport when the weather conditions forced it to divert to Gatwick at about 08:00 BST.

A spokesman for the Sussex airport said the airline was waiting for a crew before it could complete its journey.

Sussex Police were called to the flight to prevent a breach of the peace.

A BBC World Service reporter on board said there had been inadequate communication from crew and the mood on the plane was becoming heated.

Air India was unavailable for comment.

Yet another reason if one was needed not to fly with these buggers.

You would have thought they could manage to schedule a flight crew with enough hours left of cope with a delay at heathrow. And given they presumably had a crew available to fly the thing back to bombay.... how come it takes them 8 hours to get to gatwick.... got lost?

Why not just let the passengers off at Gatwick and put them on a bus?

Eek. 17 hours on a plane full of Indians.

I fly with an Indian based airline,if anything goes wrong your on your own.
The staff just disappear, and let the police solve the problem.

Could be worse - at least most of the gap yahhh types who've spent 6 months in indiahhh sharing a single hose pipe with 2000 village peasants are safely at uni by now.

Surely Air India could sort some buses. 8-10 coaches would move them all. The weight saving for fuel costs off an empty take off from Gatwick to LHR would offset a chunk of the cost too.

I expect they did the bean counting and worked out the various charges for offloading passengers and hiring buses would have cost them as much as ten pounds extra.
