    Playboy Centerfold's Ironic Death

    Source: Los Angeles Times
Former Playboy playmate Yvette Vickers died of heart failure, coroner says

Yvette Vickers, the early actress, model and Playboy playmate whose body was found reportedly mummified in her Los Angeles home, died of heart failure, the coroner's office said Saturday.

Vickers, who would have been 82 when her body was found, died of natural causes "due to arterial sclerotic cardiovascular disease," or heart disease caused by a hardening of the arteries, said Joyce Kato, an investigator with the Los Angeles County coroner's department.

The department did not make a determination on when she died.

Vickers' body appears to have remained undiscovered for close to a year, police said. A neighbor who had noticed cobwebs in Vickers' mailbox entered the home and discovered her body on April 27.

Her body was found inside her home. Susan Savage, her neighbour, had become concerned after noticing a large pile of yellowing mail in her mailbox as well as spider webs across her front door. Savage had to push her way through a mountain of uncollected fanmail and boxes to find the body; a small heater was still running next to it. A computer was on and at least one window was broken. Authorities indicate that the mummified state of her body suggest Vickers could have been dead for nearly a year.
Savage said Vickers kept to herself. "To the end she still got cards and letters from all over the world requesting photos and still wanting to be her friend.
We've all been crying about this. Nobody should be left alone like that."
13 May 11an autopsy shows she died from heart disease. She was overweight and allegedly abused alcohol, so “heart disease was not a surprise.” County coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter, however, couldn't say when she had actually passed away. Winter said her brother was notified of her death

Hardly ironic..quite sad, almost brought tears to my eyes, still she had a good run so lets move on shall we?

But before I move on I'm wondering what make the computer was and will there be enough money from her estate to pay the heating bill?

Not really; ironic means unexpected, surprising or paradoxical. Being a Playboy playmate makes one the center of attention and desirability, yet she dies alone and so isolated that her death is not discovered for months in the middle heavily populated Los Angeles County.

I prefer nidhogg's version. It's far more thought out and amusing.

    ^^

She was 82. Whether a Playmate or not, at 82 you ain't gonna be the centre of attention and desirability.

Yeah...right it also means satirical and sardonic...and more.

In todays world it's not unusual to die alone and unnoticed. In fact even people who are brain dead are often ignored...take "pupa" for example!

Whatever, I hope she went painlessly and RIP.

Yea I know, I spent 20 years as a policeman. The "check the wellbeing, no one has seen the old lady for a week" was one of the worst calls you could get. The smell in a closed apartment or house was something you never forget. Worse, we had a responsibility to make sure the death was natural and not a crime so we actually examine the body and house for evidence of a crime. When it was so bad we were gagging, we could call the fire department and they would loan us a breathing apparatus.

Not sure about the irony quotient, but:
    A) She was seriously hot once upon a time

    B) Roger Corman's "Attack of the Giant Leeches" starring the lovely Ms. Vickers scared the crap out me as a kid- the special effects are ridiculous, but nastiness of the characters in the film combined with the mixed feelings I experienced while watching scenes like this

followed by scenes of the "bad girl" getting sucked in a cave by a monster

my first brush with horror-erotica which I recalled later the first time I saw this http://hararie-japan-tokyo-tokyo.com...b-1200x851.gif

    C) She had an interesting and it seems turbulent life- seems the love of her life was Jim Hutton, whom I am old enough to remember tied an untimely death (his son has had a successful career).

    RIP
