    Facial piercings for schoolgirls

several hundred years ago (approx) my older brother appeared in court charged with something like 'being on the premises illegally', ie lurking in the grounds of our home town's girls boarding school - this one.

on with the story, a New Zealand girls school (ages 12-13 upwards) has decided to allow facial piercings - lip and nose - as being 'acceptable.

A New Plymouth high school is breaking new ground allowing facial piercings. An announcement at a school assembly at New Plymouth Girls' High School yesterday gave students the green light to add one lip and one nose piercing to their school uniform. The old rule was one stud earring in each ear, a rule still enforced by four other Taranaki secondary schools.

Call for an age limit on piercing

A New Plymouth body piercer is calling for legislation setting age limits for people wanting piercings. Shirley Kemp's comments come in the wake of a decision by New Plymouth Girls' High School to loosen rules on facial piercings.

"There isn't a regulator and no checking is done whatsoever, but it should be. I have rules because I believe there need to be, but it doesn't mean other stores do," Ms Kemp said.

Ms Kemp, who owns Trick or Treat in New Plymouth, has been body piercing for 18 years and says a line has to be drawn.

She said she was horrified when two 15-year-old girls approached her wanting their genitals pierced. "I told them to come back when they were 18 at least and they said f... you, we'll go to the shop down the road," she said.

Trick or Treat's rules are 16 and over for nose and ear piercings, 17 and over for needle piercings and anyone under 16 has to be accompanied by an adult.

The industry is practically unregulated, however. Ms Kemp said age restrictions were necessary and it was her way of respecting parents' rights. Once one school loosened its rules it became harder to control others, she said.

Ah , Shucks. I have no problem with performing piercings for girls on a case by case basis I set up shop at the biker rodeo in a vacant nimal stall . In full view of thousands of passers by. I did ears, noses, belly buttons, eyebrows, lips and nipples. I never inquired as to age. No request for down low adornments but always ready to dive in and work hard on request. Pushing a needle through a nipple requires a steady hand and causes an occasional erection by those in attendance.
