Oral sex linked to cancer risk

Oral sex linked to cancer risk

WASHINGTON - US SCIENTISTS said on Sunday there is strong evidence linking oral sex to cancer, and urged more study of how human papillomaviruses may be to blame for a rise in oral cancer among white men.

In the United States, oral cancer due to HPV infection is now more common than oral cancer from tobacco use, which remains the leading cause of such cancers in the rest of the world. Researchers have found a 225-per cent increase in oral cancer cases in the United States from 1974 to 2007, mainly among white men, said Maura Gillison of Ohio State University.

'When you compare people who have an oral infection or not... the single greatest factor is the number of partners on whom the person has performed oral sex,' said Ms Gillison, who has been researching HPV and cancer for 15 years.

'When the number of partners increases, the risk increases,' she told reporters at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Washington.

Previous studies have suggested that people who have performed oral sex on six or more partners over a lifetime face an eight-fold higher risk of acquiring HPV-related head or neck cancer than those with fewer than six partners, she said.

But even though the link between HPV and cervical cancer has been well known for many years, and vaccines now exist to provide some protection, much study remains to be done to confirm observational links and establish causes, Ms Gillison said. 'The rise in oral cancer in the US is predominantly among young white males and we do not know the answer as to why.'

I think my wife has less chance of getting oral cancer if she smokes my cock than if she smokes a cigarette.

Yawn. Only impacts those who are pitching, not catching. The impact is in young, white males who suck dicks. Think 'most' of us are pretty much safe.

Of course the study also showed that women who give BJ's are much less likely to get cancer, and their skin looks better, and their bum doesn't look big in anything.

^^^Para 3: "number of partners on whom the person has performed oral sex".

Para 6: "the rise is predominantly among young, white, males".

Therefore, the conclusion can be made that if sucking multiple dicks causes oral cancer, and young, white males are the ones getting the oral cancer, then young, white males are the ones sucking the dicks.

    Yes?

    Thanks for the chuckle, Davis.

Oral/throat cancer in UK males has seen a marked increase recently and has been the subject of a BBC programme.

We're talking about HPV (the virus that causes cervical cancer), hetrosexual activity and the recent surge in oral/throat cancers from HPV in males. This is not a "gay thing".

The UK offers an HPV vaccine to girls of a certain age but not to boys, it is available but must be paid for privately.

or brain cancer if it's a cell phone. I'd prefer to die young and happy than live a long boring and miserable life anyway.

Really. My loud yodeling in the canyon and the missus screaming out stanzas of the Star-Spangled Banner, I always thought it to be aural.

    Oops. Sorry. Never mind!

Remember the skydiver that fell to his nasty death a few weeks ago and all the forum members that bashed him for taking these leaps? The response from many was what have you done with your life, what risks have you taken etc...

I have found the daring thing that I do and will continue to do. Eating can now be called a extreme thrill sport! I know it is a risk but because I am fearless I will continue to take such risks. For any guys here who don't wanna take such serious risks have your wife PM me, I have a recipe for a salad she might like.

Damn I feel like I am starting to fit in here finally. LOL
