nothing to make a fuss about; all engines get problems occasionally.

the crew acted correctly and there was no safety problem

    Hi Andy,

Sorry I don,t agree with your statement. I understand that all engines get problems occassionaly, however thei has been quite a few occasions now it seems to be a QANTAS issue that include both types of aircraft Boeing and Airbus.

When all maintenence was carried out in Australia or sometimes London on the Boeing 747 fleet there were rarely ever any issues, since their maintenence has been outsourced to other parts of Asia these problems have started to arise.
The airline media services will tell every man and his dog that its not a problem. If you question the people who fly the aircraft for a living its a very different story.

Maintenence of these aircraft is expensive. So is a lawsuit when you crash and all the passengers are killed just ask Air France after there Concorde in Paris and the Airbus over the Atlantic.

maybe the engines are a little older now too

and other airlines also get similar problems

if you have any stats to show that Quantas has a much worse record, please post them, or a link

two year old blog but funny, vindictive as hell but the incidents are documented. Qantas Sucks World - Customer complaints . Add all the problems since 2009 and its not been good for Quantas for a while. Finally have taken the pressure off the old Air China, China Air, and Bangladesh Biman.

    Found this as well.

I flew just recently on a Qantas A380 from Singapore to Sydney and I was shocked with regard to the wear and tear in the cabin and for a relatively new plane.

Plus the fittings and fixtures looked cheap and when compared with an older model plane.

A comfortable flight though and for such a huge bird.

Its not about a worse record, they still have never lost an aircraft or passenger through an air accident. The problem lies in the fact that some of their maintenence practices are being questioned by the people who fly the aircraft amongst others. Which is a concern because pilots can obviously tell when an aircraft is not performing as it should, and minor issues today are the serious problems of tomorrow.
There are passengers also who say that the airline has gone down hill rapidly in comparison to QANTAS in the past.

so have BA, Thai, Eva etc etc

they are all cutting back and giving worse service

which is bad news for them as they will be on a par with the low cost carriers soon

it is even noticeable in business class, which is very stupid as they make the most profit there. First class seems still Ok
    I have reported your post

None of them have a bad record same as Thai airways.
Unfortunately the statistics are measured on loss of life.
Thai airways were all internal flights but they rank world number one.

I shit you not, only about two or three months ago when this qantas stuff kept popping up and making them look bad they had links to different website that showed safety ratings. I even showed Pat the Thai girl i worked with and she was very surprised too, but those same links i cannot find.
It showed unequivocally that Thai airways (although international was impecable) their domestic flights let them down and the safety rating was rated on number of fatalities and they were number one. I am going to have to go back through old news to find the link. Maybe it was a good advertising ploy to make others look worse, I can have patty verify too, she was as surprised as i was.
Now they say number 9: Top 10 Most Dangerous Airlines.

I have not noticed any depreciation in Service with Emirates, they are still top notch, maybe a little with Qatar Airways but that will pick up when the new airport opens in Doha and they can improve the economy passengers check in and quality of travel.
I still say the bench mark for all the airlines cutting corners in quality, engineering or safety is Singapore Airlines Business or First Class its still a real pleasure to fly with them.

based on crashes in the 80's and 90's

But in the 1980′s and 1990′s flying on board of this airline was quite dangerous, as incidents haunted it, one after another. The biggest occurred in a flight from Kathmandu in 1992, when the airliner crash killed 113 people.

Qantas jumbo forced to return to Singapore
    Jun 5, 2011

A Qantas jumbo jet was forced to return to Singapore early on Saturday when its wheels failed to retract after take-off, the airline said.

    PHOTO: REUTERS

SINGAPORE - A QANTAS jumbo jet was forced to return to Singapore early on Saturday when its wheels failed to retract after take-off, the airline said.

'Shortly after take-off the crew on Qantas flight (QF) 52 from Singapore to Brisbane noticed that the aircraft's undercarriage would not retract,' a Qantas spokesman said.

'The aircraft returned to Singapore airport and landed safely at 12.03am.'

The Boeing 747-400 had left Singapore Changi Airport less than an hour before it was forced to return.

    No one was injured.
