Don't invade other countries so they won't have any excuse to move to yours.

Australia helped to create mayhem in Afghanistan, enough for the local population to wish to live somewhere else. So I find it's fair enough that Australia now offers a home to those poor people after destroying their previous one.

Just send the navy home , close Christmas Island let them all come in wherever, whenever they want .
Make the bleeding hearts happy with one proviso : every crying bleeding heart must have at least one couple living next door and take two more into their own home and supply shelter and sustenance.
    That should make everyone happy?

If they have no criminal records, they obviously won't fit in.

Send them back home, fair enough !

What absolute crap , Australia didn't help create mayhem , Afghanistan did this very nicely by themselves thanks .
Australia went to show support for the big brother who has supported and supplied protection for us for so long.

Right, maybe it's time to stand up and realize you don't need a big brother.

Australia has some of the best fighting units in the world but their politician are craps.

Australia is a democracy, you got what you deserve ...

They should let people who claim refugee staus stay. Having money doesn't mean you can't be a refugee. Maybee the police are after them and they need a place to take refuge.

Actually Australia is of course part of the invading force. Prior to the invasion by the coalition Afghanistan was a peaceful country under Taliban rule.

The coalition could have left it at that.

Still, this doesn't mean every Mohammad, Ahmed or Said can just expect another country to let them in with welcoming arms.

They should toughen up and deal with life in their own country.

For people who can't even make it in their own country?

I think Australia, like most Western countries, has an immigration policy with accompanying laws. Follow that, and if you have something to give to the country, you're let in.

But if you're some goat farmer from Mazar- I- Bumfucky with 3 years of religious school, well, then tough luck.

Mud after a statement like that I think you must have failed kindergaten - go get an Atlas and a few weather reports - mind you, if you promise to live in the "dead centre" forever with all the people you want to bring I'll buy your plane ticket - no cheating by trying to buy water or food from us coast dwellers , just catch and kill your own so to speak.
No way we can take you on the coastal strip it's full and the utilities can't handle the current population.
Rivers are polluted from overpopulation in the urban sprawl and we are building water desalination plants.
Yeah we really need another couple of million penniless so called refugees to load us up a bit more - a hole in the head makes more sense.

Wow, you lost me there mate and I wonder whether your taking the piss or just a tad misinformed of our real situation.

Australia is a massive country with its piss ant population squeezed into a very small amount of usable land, Most of the place is desert where very few live and rightly so.

We don't want to end up like England where one cant walk down the street without falling over a foreigner or one of our own hence why the majority want a hard line on immigration and have no time for Illegals arriving in boats.

As far as our security goes we would be well foked if we had to go it alone as a powerful invading force could just walk in with very resistance.

Yes we do have a very good army but the numbers are small compared to other forces.

An example is Indonesia, If they wanted to have a crack at us things would not be good because there army is huge compared to ours and there a stones throw away.

The fact being, we have the support of The U.S.A and other western countries if that scenario proved true, hence why Australia tends to support the U.S.A. when asked.

We could tell them to fok off but that would be a very silly way to go.

Just a point on immigration, today I was in Perth getting my visa and the city is full of Immigrants, Asians and many other races.

Some are students, some are tourists and some are permanent.

I got no problem with them as long as they have applied and entered Australia legally but to expect us to take people who rock up in boats one can bash them up there arse.

You lot are going down the UK road and most times now we don't even bother to lock em up.

Due to a serious shortage of immigration officers, ofthen when illegal immigrants are stopped and challenged they are advised to make their way to the nearest immigration center to be accounted for and processed. there aren't enough officers to escort them so....

Most of them don't bother to turn up!
