Iran to arrest women with suntan

Better hide those bronzed skin when visiting Tehran, Iran. At least if you are a woman.

On Thursday, Tehran police chief Brig. Gen. Hossien Sajedinia has warned that all women sporting a tan will be arrested and imprisoned because this violates the "spirit of Islamic law." Thus, any woman that looked like a "walking mannequin" will be punished.

He said that the Iranian public expects the police to act firmly and swiftly to any social misbehavior caused by women, and men, particularly those who defy the Islamic values. He cited some areas in northern Tehran where suntanned women and young girls look like walking mannequins.

"We are not going to tolerate this situation and will first warn those found in this manner and then arrest and imprison them," Sajedinia said.

The warning is the latest move by Iranian authorities that is showing a trend towards "radical" implementation of Islam. Recently, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned of an impending major earthquake.

Prior to Ahmadinejad's statement, senior Iranian cleric, Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi, claimed that revealing female clothing disturbed young men and also caused earthquakes.

"Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes," Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media.

But some analysts said that the new order for women to dress "immodestly" is part of a wider campaign by the government to quash the opposition movement.

According to Iranian law, women should dress according to Islamic values and requires them to wear headscarves and loose-fitting, figure-disguising cloaks. But many Iranian women have been liberally interpreting this rule due to lack of legal clarity and partly due to a growing desire for women to be in fashion.
Better not to be attractive and beautiful in the tolerant islamic world.

And, what's wrong with sunbathing in private, or washing naked in private or shaving your snatch in private.
Under Islamic law girls can shave their snatches, I checked before following Ants lead and being reborn back into Islam.
Seems that Muslim men want their women white, and shaven if at all possible.

Suely this should be looked upon as a personal preference. The suppression of women by this self appointed Chief of Fashion Police relating to Islamic 'values' is really quite laughable.

Indeed, should not his statement that women will be arrested and imprisoned for merely having tanned skin lead to his confinement in a mental institute where a few lashes might be in order to 'put his mind right'.

What is this complete moron spouting on about concerning the 'spirit of Islamic Law? Is that his own fashion law that he has conjured up merely because of his own personal tastes? Again, what is this 'we' business.

It appears not to be illegal for women to dress in a more fashionable way and therefore quite shocking that some prick in a uniform is threatenng the masses that they will be punished for doing so. Mind you, he is not the only bully to have become powerful over the past few years, just look at Gordon Brown!

It seems quite evident that people like him are losing the plot especially when they also suggest that 'revealing women's clothing is likely to cause earthquakes'. A mythical message which of course belongs in biblical times.

At least the Belgians have banned the Burka in public, stand by for threats against 'Islamaphobic' Belgium. Not much chance of a suntan there though.

What puzzles me more in the face of so much evidence to the contrary, is how so many can defend Islam as rational , wonderful and innocent of malicious intent to non believers.?

I do not think any in here supports radical islam. More like again and again taken it upon them to point out, that not all muslims are evil and want to slit your throat. But it seems to be a Sisyphus' work.

I'm not sure it's rational to believe half of what's written about Iran by the Jew controlled Western media. Even if it's true, (which I doubt) I'm sure that Iranian men would just as amazed and disgusted at our societies, which tolerate the selfish silly behavior of western feminists.

Sure can. The Iranian government and officials are going a bit OTT (and that's being generous).

No, it's a Muslim thing just the extreme end of it.

It's a bit like saying all British politicians are nasty right wing bastards because the BNP are.

Would you be kind enough to quote (from any thread) where a poster here has defended the extremes of Islam please?

I do believe I've missed them completely.

Just in case you include or think of me in that way I'll try to make it clear.

The extremists in Islam are a bunch of sick puppies that the world would be far better off without.

    Clear?

And now if it was not enough, the best joke of the week.

Since When Is Iran a Champion For Women's Rights?

The United Nations Economic and Social Council yesterday elected Iran to serve a four-year term -- beginning in 2011 -- on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The U.N. calls the Commission “the principal global policy-making body” on women’s rights and claims it is “dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women.” Yet Iran was elected by acclamation. It was one of only two candidates for two slots allocated to the Asian regional bloc – in other words, a fixed slate and a done deal.

Well here is a thing, many would say the world would be a better place without religion full stop - can't disagree with that really, do we need to have a load of funny men tell us how to live? Surely for the mostpart a moral code is pretty much defined.

One thing is 100% certain Fred, the world would be a bloody site better off without Islam. Trouble is, where would idiots like the FPI go Freddy? How about the idiots that stand in the middle of the road and force payment of amal for the local mosque?

These guys don't know when to stop, do they?

Don't be an apologist for someone else Willy, if someone wants to defend Islam and show me that Islam in fact is a religion of peace and enlightenment, then they have a means to do so. If however, they joined up as a Muslim as some sort of talking point for his friends at the time, but actually didn't do much more than wander around Regents Park mosque and think that they had a very nice chandelier, then better that they stay posting meaningless photos with wildly inaccurate titles.

Remember the other arse who used to like posting photos?
    Hopefully he'll get eaten by a fuzzy-wuzzy.

Mr.Fred I have no wish to treat yours or any contributors point of view with contempt ( there is one exception) - I listen with great concern to those that speak costantly of the benign nature of the moderates of Islam which tends to lull the fence sitters into a frightening sense of complacency.
I put my view to you before and I put it to you again - the Fanatics are in charge ,and when push comes to shove the moderates will capitulate and do the bidding of the fanatics because of their proven fear of retaliation should they refuse , or they secretly believe in the Jihad and the need to fanatically follow the worse dictates of the Qu'oran. - I see no evidence of the moderates actually attempting to halt the atrocities committed by the fundamentalists?
