I think you could do anything you felt necessary to protect yourself, family and posessions in your own home. There is an issue if you persue the thief off your premises.
The farmer Martin was imprisoned not because he killed the thief but because he laid in wait with a loaded shotgun.

About 30 years ago i returned to my flat to find an intruder in my lounge, he had broken in and then found himself in the company of my two German Shepards. They were retired police dogs and so did not take 'free' bites. I decided the best course of action was to go to the pub while my dogs had a chat with the scumbag.
I returned about 2330hrs to find him in tears still of course trapped in my lounge.
The cvnt had soiled himself but the police took him away when they stopped laughing.
No suggestion i had commited any offence, but i did admit to being a poor timekeeper.

Yep...what a choice for the English people.

I wonder just how much of this the brits can take? Surely, even the reserved nature of the English has a limit.

Yes soumds good, but giving people carte blanche to execute law against intruders/ trespassers, is not well thought through.

    I see the headlines allready.

Anyway, as with all self preserving/serving politicians this is nothing more than the usual rhetoric and euphemism. But many will be sold!
