African carried out knife crime because he hated Britain and wanted to go home

An immigrant carried out a knifepoint mugging in the hope he would be sent back to his war-torn African homeland because he hated life in Britain, a court has heard.

Kasiba Misigaro, 21, who was living off benefits, believed he would have a better life back in Burundi, one of the ten poorest countries in the world.
He asked the immigration services to send him home but they did nothing, so he pulled a knife on another African hoping to be deported.

Misigaro targeted Isce Akanbi, 40, on December 21 last year, near West Ham tube station in east London on his way to meet friends who were playing a game of football.
James Lofthouse, prosecuting, told Inner London Crown Court: "He grabbed his jacket and put something to his side, saying: 'Give me your wallet. The victim looked down and saw a silver knife.
"Scared of what he would do, he gave him two mobile phones and his wallet."
But when a friend of Mr Akanbi arrived at the scene he stood up for himself and demanded his possessions back.
At first Misigaro waved the knife from side-to-side, ordering them: '"move back, or you'll get it."
Mr Lofthouse added: "Mr Akanbi and his friend pursued him back to the park, joined by another friend who had been playing football with them.
"The three managed to corner the defendant a short distance away."
Eventually Misigaro dropped the stolen items, along with his weapon, and police arrested him at the scene.
He told officers: "I only did it because I wanted to go home. I don't want to be here."
Misigaro admitted robbery, but insisted he did not intend to stab the victim, only frighten him.
The prosecutor added: "He was on benefits, hates being in the UK, has no interest in working or integrating, has no money, and would commit further offences if he remained here.
"He said he had already approached the immigration services about going to Burundi but they didn't seem particularly interested in assisting."
Judge Simon Gerald smiled and observed: "If we put him on a plane I imagine he'd like that too."
The court heard he has amassed convictions for 21 offences in the last five years and was completing an unpaid work order for his last crime, an attempted robbery, when he committed this offence.
Charles Langley, defending, said: "This is a rather unusual case, where the defendant wants to be sent back home.
"I would seek that your honour makes a recommendation for deportation."
Jailing Misigaro for three years, Judge Gerald said it was a "very serious offence", aggravated by the fact he was on a community order at the time.
Misigaro, from Plaistow, east London, will be automatically deported at the end of his three year sentence.

I could have told him otherwise before he wasted his hard earned cash to get there.

Similar thing happened in my neighborhood four years ago. Paki went into the local police station and fire bombed it hoping to get sent back home- he'll have to wait a bit as he got ten years, easier to get a job and save up the fare.

Bloke I used to be mates with was a policeman in Salford Manchester. A lorry full of Rumanian refugees arrived there and got dropped off. After about two hours roaming the streets ang getting mugged and battered by the local shithouses they handed themselves in at the police station asking to be returned home.

"For 2005-06 the cost per prisoner week at HMP Leeds (Armley) is £422" source

So thats anything in the 70,000 to 85-000 GBP price range I would think.

Compare that to the cost of putting the maggot on the next banana boat back to Africa........

I think if I was a tax payer I would go for leniency and just confiscate everything he owns and stick him on the next banana boat out.

I wonder if there are any crimes an immigrant could commit where they would not get jail time but only a ticket home. There must be something... In the USA, all you need to do is breach one of the immigration laws.

I thought immigrants getting benefits was a myth, to be honest, didn't know you could do that in Britain.

Does the law say that he has to be sent back to Burundi? France would be cheaper.

All he had to do was to go to dhss and tell them i want to go home, they would have gladly paid for his ticket, and added him to the deportation figures, every ones a winner.

We've sent people home with up to 3K sterling, only last year.
    Strange country.

Illegal immigrants cannot be sent anywhere without travel documents which is why they destroy/hide them on arrival, If they have commited no other crime they are released on bail until documents can be obtained from their country of birth or citizenship! They get benifits as they are not allowed to work.

The Chinese govt are in no hurry by their own admission to supply passports for any illegal.

Africans are even more difficult because many African states have no birth records and just deny citizenship. Most African refugees travel overland without papers.

I would add that having visited many of these poor countries i dont blame them for trying. I blame any problems on us for it being a worthwhile mission.
I am more troubled by legal migrants from the poorer Eastern European countries that bring their violent crime with them.

Seems like the government should give immigrants on benefits the option of a one way ticket home. I'd think it would be cheaper in the long run.

Few illegal immigrants would leave voluntarily, with no greater incentive than a free one-way ticket. Pointless coming all that way, only to return home flat broke. Give them a couple of k and they'll have enough for a good start back home...and don't forget to take their DNA.
