UK teacher charged over pupil attack

    Saturday, 11 July 2009 11:17
A science teacher appeared in court in the UK today charged with the attempted murder of one of his students.
Peter Harvey, 49, is accused of attacking 14-year-old Jack Waterhouse at All Saints' Roman Catholic School in Mansfield on Wednesday morning.
Paramedics found the teenager unconscious in a pool of blood at the entrance to a classroom in the school's science block.

He is in a stable condition at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he is being treated for a bleed on the brain and a fractured skull.
Mr Harvey, of Rannoch Drive, Mansfield, spoke only to confirm his name and address during a 10-minute hearing at the town's magistrates' court.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court by videolink on 27 July.

Jesus! Was it a bit of an over reaction.

Does it matter how much cheek the kid gave?

I feel a bit sorry for the guy because the kid was obviously a cheeky little shit.

Picking up an object and beating someone over the head is an over reaction though.

When I was at school, I once pushed a teacher to his limit, by being cheeky, he had me up against a wall and was about to knock my lights out and the only reason he didn't was because he was pulled down by another teacher.

Had he smacked me though, I wouldn't have taken it any further with the authorities or probably even the school, because back then you knew that if you pushed them too far you were going to get a beating. We knew who the teachers were who could be pushed over the edge and we knew the softies were who would call the more aggressive teachers for back up.

Had the guy been aloud to give the kid a bunch of fives, the kid wouldn't have pushed the guy so far to the point where he got clocked over the head with a science weight, or whatever it was that he used and he'd simply have a bruised ego and a sore chin.

I remember 3 instances at my old school which nowadays would have resulted in serious charges brought against the teachers:

    1) Mike Walton threw Monka into the River Swale at summer camp because Monka threw Walton's son's backpack in first.

    2) Mike Walton broke Dick H's arm by throwing him against a classroom wall because Dick was picking on Walton's son.

    3) Dusty Rhodes smashed Andy M's head against the door because Andy had been leaning out of a first floor window gobbing on people below. Andy got serious concussion and collapsed later in the afternoon.

For the last 2 episodes we had the Newcastle Evening Chronicle reporters hanging around outside the school sniffing but we were told by the headmaster to close ranks.

Dusty got his comeuppence when all his house windows were put in by some Upper Sixth formers after their A-levels. This time the students got done by the police and the Chronicle had a field day.

I was beaten regularly by women teachers (nuns) because (according to them) I couldn't read, or too lazy to read. I'm dyslectic.

Having taught in various schools in the Uk over a number of years it surprises me it hasn't happened sooner. Teachers in the Uk, by and large have an impossible job. The families reject all responsibility for their kids. Social services can't cope and society blames it all on the teachers. Thank God I'm out of it. Rantus Terminus.

    RGS?

I was at Sheffield Uni with Waltons son - called Nigel?

He was in my hall very close to me - I actually got him the job of Entertainments Officer at the Hall as a joke on everyone.

He then tried to fiddle Buster BloodVessel by a couple of hundred quid at the Hall Ball and he booked a band for the wrong night for the ball too - they turned up 24 hours late at midnight on the Saturday instead of the Friday.

He got caught fiddling too - we also heard he had been caught stealing at school - our hall of residence was full of RGS old boys including that Scottish tory twat - forget his name - stuart something

He was supposed to be going into the army as an officer - force fed by his father but they would not have him. His grandmother was mayor of Sheffields in our first year - she even acknowledged he was a tit

    Correct!

At school he stole loads of gear from the army cadet store and sold it to the Army Surplus store on Pilgrim Street.

Our geography teacher threw a blackboard duster at a kid who was just arsing around. He was not antagonising the teacher directly. Split the kids head with lots of blood everywhere. 1 inch from possibly blinding him. Nothing happened.

Yes - that was what came out from the RGS guy's only after he was caught fiddling at Uni.

It was all his families fault - had the poor kid neurotic - at one point he was allowed 15 GBP a week to spend and he got it weekly as pocket money.

I used to show porn video's and charge people 50 pence to watch - Nigel had to be thrown out the room. He was grunting and making strange noises to himself.

Last I heard he had a job with a rip off company complulsory purchase orders for the Eurostar rail line but that was 89 - wonder where he is now?

    Basic Info

    Type:Organisations - Advocacy Organisations
Description:Peter Harvey is hero within the education system.

Although his 'take no shit' attitude may have landed him in some trouble recently, he has shown the country that there is something seriously wrong with the laws restricting teachers and protecting kids in schools. We currently live in a time where teachers can't physically break up a fight due to new powers that protect children, where teachers cannot defend themselves from verbal or physical abuse for fear of legal action. And guess what, after taking all this abuse from the little undisciplined blighters who are smart enough to know and work the system to their advantage, someone has finally snapped.

Look at Jack Waterhouse, smug little fucker isn't he. I'm sure we all remember these type of kids from our school days, who would taunt and abuse teachers who they knew were powerless to fight back. So they up their game and push the limits. Until something happens.

    ...WACK!!

See ya later Jack Waterhouse. Enjoy hospital.

Basically my point is that the behavior of these little bastards is getting out of hand. That kid must have done something pretty bad to have the "best teacher in the school" smash in his head with a 2kg weight.

Parents aren't allowed to discipline their kids as a report to social could result in criminal proceedings against the parents. Nowadays, schoolteachers can't touch a hair on their heads; kids know it, abuse the hell out of it, and the problem exacerbates in an un-controlled spiral.

Brats united become adults and so on and so on.

Mr Harris at Portsmouth Grammar school used to invite naughty boys up to the front of the class to smash their own heads against the teacher's desk. If impact wasn't satisfactory for beefy Harris, he'd grab the boys' hair and do it for them.....no comeback! Hate him today, 35 years on!

As Chairman of the Hall Film club I had the priviledge of being able to take the hall Video and TV into my room of course ;-)

We poor students back in the 80's had to rely on our full grants you know - no loans then except overdrafts and 55 pence a pint in the Union / Hall bar's had to be got from somewhere
