    Nope. Wrong again.

It ain't in the US. And that was the key determinant for placing the detention camp there.

I'd have no problem putting these animals into super max. But the softies will scream to let them out on bail for five years while the case is pending.

Nah, on second thought, screw that. They have no business being in the US. Let 'em go back to their caves. We'll kill 'em later. The Messiah promised...

Not last time I checked. It's a US base, leased. Same as the ones in Germany and other countries.

The Yanks could give the place back to Cuba, lock, stock and inmates.

That might not be a bad idea but knowing the Castro Brothers, KSM and his crew would be flying planes into tall buildings in short order...

All that's remaining in Gitmo are the shoeshine boys to the donut delivery guy that serviced OBL's mechanic.

Dubya wasn't so careless to leave the big fish in that doomed tank.

    KSM's probably in Israel.

The more I think about this the more I come to the conclusioon that it is a US problem. These guys were brought to the US (Yes, Guantanamo belongs to the US under a perpatual lease) under some spurious 'law' and now want to disown them , so to speak.

Let them be transferred to US jails and be tried there . . . allow the rule of law to function.

No complicity toward the nations that actually illegally detained these poor handicraft workers and rag collectors and turned them over to the US for shipment to Gitmo -- often transiting their own sovereign airfields?

The US encouraged other nations to break their own laws to aid the US's interests - and now you got your GITMO inmates.

Deal with the problem you created.

So you get a pass if you were duped into doing something illegal and immoral?

He he. I should have guessed. Quite in-character.

    encouraged?

bribed or extorted would seem more accurate.

It's funny how problems start getting more complicated once there's a Democrat in the White House. Closing Gitmo won't be so easy as BO thinks.

Tom Joscelyn profiles one of those being held at Gitmo, whom the Associated Press tried to whitewash as a mere "assistant cook for the Taliban."

Cant do that for a number of reasons.
Confessions obtained under torture wouldn't be allowed.
Hearsay evidence from anonymous witnesses wouldn't be allowed.
The defendant would be allowed to see the so called evidence against him.
Prearranged guilty verdicts wouldn't be allowed; etc, etc...

Plus it would open a whole can of worms re illegal detention (aka kidnapping), lack of legal due process, serious assault (aka torture) etc.

How about we put the detainees in a cell with the Bush admin and let them fight it out Spartacus style. Whoever lives gets to go free. We could put it on pay per view and make a killing. I'd pay to see that.

Put Bush and Rumsfeld on trial for their war crimes would be more appropriate.

When Abu al-Hareth Muhammad al-Oufi was imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, he loudly, continually protested his innocence. He claimed he was on his way to Pakistan to help refugees, out of the kindness of his heart.

Now that he’s resurfaced in Yemen as an Al Qaeda fighter, suddenly his story has changed: Former Gitmo Detainee Hailed as ‘Fomenter of War’.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Before he was released from Guantanamo, a Saudi detainee insisted he had only wanted to help refugees and was not a fighter. Now, as an Al Qaeda field commander sporting a bandolier of bullets, he is threatening the United States and has been hailed by a militant Web site as a veteran guerrilla and “a fomenter of war.”

The story of Abu al-Hareth Muhammad al-Oufi underscores the dilemma Barack Obama’s administration finds itself in: Keeping men locked up without trials invites global criticism but releasing them without a fair and diligent process to distinguish enemies from noncombatants exposes the U.S. and its allies to danger. It also shows how hard it is to separate truth from lies

    Imagine that...
