I am visiting Dallas Texas next spring. The Pacific route offers entry at DFW, with one stop in Hong Kong, Seoul or Tokyo. Alternatives include SFO with an internal flight. Going west ME/Asian/EU routes are available.

    Any polite suggestions?
    Try entering in Dallas.

Good point actually. They'll have all his pro Chinastan and Russiastan comments printed out ready for him, along with a bucket of fairy liquid, rubber gloves and a bike pump.

That's if they choose to lube.

There is so much fucking wrong with this it's difficult to know where to start.

An Air India plane hit a wall as it took off, leaving parts of the aircraft on the ground, but the pilot continued with the flight as if nothing had happened.

The aircraft struck a 1.5 metre high wall and hit a small tower at Tiruchirappalli International Airport in Tamil Nadu, India, the Times of India reported.

The accident happened just after midnight. The plane had 130 passengers on board, and was headed for Dubai.

"We informed the pilot about the hit," the airport director
told the IANS news service. "The pilot said nothing was wrong with the plane as the systems were functioning normally. But we found some parts of the plane, like an antenna, on the ground."

However, two hours into the flight, the flight was turned back to India in what the airline called "a precautionary measure". It landed safely in Mumbai, four hours after taking off.

The pilot appeared not to be aware that there was
fencing entangled in the landing gear, and the plane had a gash underneath.

The passengers boarded other flights, and crew were inspecting the plane.

^ Hate to disappoint but the wind reported by ATC at the start was 49degrees at 26knots, gusting 40kts. That's a 20knot crosswind component gusting 30knots, still impressive but inside the regulation 25knots.

Aer Lingus crashed there 50 years ago but in my many years nearby I cannot recall loss of a passenger on a commercial flight there , tho it was the take off airport for the Basel disaster

Indeed Lulsgate on a slope over the Bristol channel is known to be a 'hard look' landing , I used to live adjacent with the pilots our local was the Bung Inn near the home of excellent Butcombe Beer which I'm delighted to see has spread hither and yon

That Air India incident is terrifying. I cannot accept the pilots were unaware they had hit something. Even a suspicion of a tail graze is sufficient reason for a precautionary return and inspection. There are a number of airlines in India and other areas of Asia where qualifications, certifications and promotions can be purchased. Scary indeed.

Couldn't agree more. Hardly a tail graze, there's a fucking big lump missing out of it!

Mind you, it is very jingly to try and hide it so that the next bloke takes the blame. As if they wouldn't notice!

A crosswind landing in steady wind is extremely common.

When it's gusting... that's a different story. Look at 9:09

Cyprus-based airline Cobalt Air has ceased operations after failing to agree new financial arrangements with creditors.

The low-cost carrier, which operated flights to Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow in the UK, said all flights would be cancelled from 23:50 on Wednesday night.

Passengers with outstanding tickets were urged not to go to Larnaca or any other airport, as no further departures were planned.

No Cobalt staff would be present, a statement from the airline added.

Passengers were advised to seek compensation from their credit card providers or travel agents.

“We sincerely apologise once again and would like to thank our very loyal customers for their support over the last two years of Cobalt operations,” read a statement from the airline.

Before 2016, short-haul flights out of Cyprus were dominated by state-controlled carrier Cyprus Airways.

Cobalt had sought to move into the space vacated by its collapse.

The cancellations came after Danish budget carrier
Primera Air ceased trading earlier this month.

Thai Airways flight from Zurich to Bangkok delayed for 2 hours whilst they booted 2 out of first class to accommodate their
    own staff.

I'm flying EVA from now on.

The national airline posted the apology from president Sumeth Damrongchaitham on its Facebook page late on Thursday night.

He said the matter was severe and affected the airline's image. He had ordered an investigation and would ensure such an incident did not occur again.[at]

"I express sorrow and apologise to all passengers affected by the unprofessional action that caused the delay. And I apologise to the passengers who were directly affected by the seat change. I take responsibility for the incident," Mr Sumeth said.

The incident reportedly involved THAI flight TG971 from Zurich to Bangkok on Oct 11.[at] It was scheduled to depart at 1.30pm but the duty pilots refused to take off unless some first-class passengers agreed to give up their seats to two THAI pilots deadheading to Bangkok.

All first-class passengers initially refused to do[at]so. After about two hours of delay, a couple finally vacated their seats so the flight could depart.[at]

They later filed a complaint, saying the two off-duty pilots should have been given vacant seats in business class, rather than taking all passengers hostage to achieve what they wanted.

^ Don't Thai airplanes have crew rest areas? Surely they could bunk up with the female "assistants"?

That's the problem with that shit airline.

I almost had a similar problem on Qatar, they'd given my first class seat to someone's "friend", but they threw the fucker back into J class and gave me my seat back.

Noise cancelling headphones and the eye mask. Well that and champagne, a few vodkas, some wine, a glass of port with the cheese plate and a brandy or two.
