Never flying Etihad again - craptastic ecomomy seats, bland/outdated interior design (seating material), frozen screen with crap movies when it intermittently worked, a very sullen hostess (eastern European by the looks and name - Lavina).
Had a fat bastard overflowing into my seat, who obviously had a weak bladder/bowel problems because he disappeared to the toilet every 30 minutes or so - waking me up in the process. Economy class sucks.
And the absolute shiteness that is Abu Dhabi airport - never have I been through a worse "international" airport. Seen better regional airports in China, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Africa.
Fook Etihad, fook Abu Dhabi airport. Fook Economy Class on long haul flights.
That said, flying domestic in China is living nightmare: 1-6 hour delays for 1-2 hours flights. The mayhem of 98% of your fellow passengers being mouthbreathing Chinese peasants/nouveau riche peasants (10 times more arrogant and unpleasant). Flight cancelled on a whim. Oh, and Chinese flights are cancelled if there is a hint of rain. National policy.
Some examples of in-flight Chinese entertainment:

Came out of LHR, terminal 2 last Saturday afternoon on a Thai flight to Bangkok. Good cafes and services at the hub but a trip through the tunnel to the parked plane. Easy emplanning, LHR staff excepted.
Plane full, maybe it's a Saturday thing? Sitting in economy full 4 across seating old fart next to me who was complaining from seeing his seat. Luckily the stewardess moved him to another seat so an empty seat next to me.
Good service from my "personal stewardess", always a smile, lots of hands on/fluids runs. Normal Thai food. Took off 20 minutes late but arrived in Bangkok 20 mins early. 747 with new in seat screens, good selection of Hollywood trash and international films. One was about a hotel in Bulgaria? centred around the maître d'hôtel, excellent large communist era hotel movie.
Glad to land , glad to be out of the UK.

It seems the USA has a thing about Emirate planes and Ebola. They have quarantined all the passengers and it seems the cleaners are refusing to service the plane. Maybe Emirates is an airline to give a miss!
I was on the flight behind Emirates into Logan in June. It's not as if they let any Emirates passengers breeze through anyway! It's going to get worse as 'flu season kicks in.
United Arab Emirates flight quarantined at Logan after sick passengers reported - Metro - The Boston GlobeFive passengers experiencing flu-like symptoms aboard an Emirates flight originating in Dubai were escorted off the plane Monday afternoon by a team in full hazmat suits at Logan International Airport — prompting the second Ebola scare in Massachusetts within two days.
Hazmat teams responded to Flight 237 at about 2:45 p.m., and escorted the five ailing passengers off the plane to evaluate their condition, according to Matthew Brelis, spokesman for Massport, which operates the airport.
Brelis said it does not appear that any of the sick passengers had been traveling in West Africa, where an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus has already killed more than 4,000 people. Regardless, out of an abundance of caution, officials transported all five of them to area hospitals for a medical evaluation.

Stinky problem forces plane back
14:02, November 4 2014
Human waste sloshing down the aisle of an airplane has forced pilots to turn around and head back to Los Angeles.
Newstalk ZB is reporting passengers on a Virgin Australia flight from LA via Sydney to Christchurch were forced to wear mask for three hours after a toilet pipe burst.
Christchurch resident Julia Malley told Newstalk ZB the smell was "unbearable".
"We could see it [human waste] it go through the aisles, like it was very obvious," she said.
The plane was forced to turn around due to safety three hours into the flight.

^ On a more positive note, I just got back from Los Angeles. Flew there on China Southern for the whopping cost of $830.10 R/T including all taxes. Nice newer Airbus A380 on the long flight, and got to spend a day/night in Guangzhou (optional only if you want) without a visa under China's 72 hour visa free stopover program.
The service, the food and the politeness were excellent. This is the 3rd time I've flown this airline and they've been excellent every time. If you're paying your own way, they'll save you a lot of money.
Indeed...
Quietly, both China Southern Airlines [Guangzhou] and China Eastern Airlines [Shanghai] are making steady inroads towards quality competition in regards to well-known Asian carriers.
Both are seeing expanded routes worldwide as well as the broader Asian market.
Up to 15 years ago, both might have been questionable as to their reputation.
Today, not a problem - top notch airlines/service within a extremely competitive regional market.
Propeller Crashes Through Airplane Window, Right at Passenger - ABC News
A passenger who was injured when a propeller crashed through the window of a commuter airliner is lucky to have made it through the ordeal relatively unscathed.
A propeller can be seeing jutting out of the body of an Air Canada Bombardier Q-400 that made an emergency landing Thursday night when a tire blew during take-off, a passenger told CTV.
Christina Kurylo was hit in the head by a propeller blade that sliced through the body of the Jazz Aviation plane when it landed at the Edmonton International Airport, CTV reported.
“All of a sudden, something came crashing through my window and I got hit in the head,” Kurylo told CTV Edmonton on Saturday. She said the blow from the propeller knocked her glasses off and left her dazed. Her only injury was a few bumps on her head and some bruises.
The incident is being investigated and no one else was injured.

Thai Airways International today reported a consolidated net loss of 9,117 million baht for the first nine months of this year.
The loss represented a 2,864 million baht increase from the same period last year, said THAI acting president ACM Siwakiat Jayema.
However he said the third quarterly performance of this year showed THAI and its subsidiaries have recorded profits of 1,097 million baht, breaking down to 1,086 million baht generated by THAI, as compared with 6,182 million baht net loss of the third quarter in 2013.
He attributed the loss for the past nine months to the tourism industry which is still not returning normal and tough competition in the industry, particularly from low cost airlines, fleet expansions, and opening of new routes.
As a consequence, THAI suffered a 15% drop in passengers from 16.20 million in the same period last year to 13.77 million this year.
The average number of seats sold per flight slipped to 70%, down nearly 10 percentage points from one year earlier.
He also said the average number of seats sold per flight in the third quarter also slipped to 71.1% from 75.3% last year.
Besides loss from asset depreciation also rose 66.2% or 2,086 million baht higher than last year to 5,237 million baht, he added.

Passenger racks up $1200 bill for in-flight Wi-Fi
A PASSENGER on Singapore Airlines was left gob smacked after receiving a $US1171.46 (AUD$1344) bill for using the plane’s in-flight Wi-Fi.
Reported on Trend Hunter, Jeremy Gutsche was on a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore when he decided to use the plane’s Wi-Fi to check his emails. Claiming to make just 155 page views, Jeremy was outraged to receive the whopping bill when he stepped off the plane.
“I wish I could blame an addiction to Netflix or some intellectual documentary that made me $1200 smarter. However, the Singapore Airlines internet was painfully slow, so videos would be impossible and that means I didn’t get any smarter … except about how to charge a lot of money for stuff. I did learn that,” he wrote.
“At one point, I spent about an hour uploading one 4mb power point doc. That doc probably cost me $100 to upload, so I hope my team liked it. I actually even emailed them a warning that my upload was taking a while. That email probably cost me $10. And yes, the pricing per mb was disclosed on sign-up, but I bought the $30 package, slept through most the flight, and really didn’t think I’d end up a thousand bucks past the limit.”
You might think twice about using wi-fi on your next flight after seeing this.

I was under the flight path today and Qatar Airways has their name written on the bottom of the aircraft.
