Blow for millions of Brit holidaymakers as price of passports set to rise again

THE price of passports is set to rise again in a massive blow to thousands of Brit holidaymakers.
Ministers have been urged to increase the £95 renewal fee once more in a bid to fill a "growing black hole" in the Passport Office's budget

Higher costs will affect millions of sun-seekers, with almost seven million passports issued to Brits last year.
An adult passport is valid for 10 years while a children's passport is valid for five.
An increase in fees could see travellers charged £32 more per application, according to The Telegraph.
This comes as the Passport Office recorded a budget deficit of almost £230million last year and £916million over the past five years

    I doubt it.

It isn't a nation based on cheating, theft and extortion.

Bladdy typical... I have a passport run to do later in the year, so it's not only a blow for holiday makers.

But to be fair, the passport cost is pretty incidental compared to my other expenses.

Steady on, you're a bit quick there. Isn't the UK one of the worst countries in the world for money-laundering? The volume of money thought to be laundered in the UK is huge. tax also mentioned this with all the dodgy barber shops, nail salons and confectionary shops on what I understand you call high streets.

Who says the Passport Office needs to be a profit centre? The government designs an expensive process then shrugs when people complain about unreasonable costs.

It should pretty much break even otherwise those without passports are subsidizing those with them and who presumably engage in international travel. Not so important if a government isn't struggling to keeps its deficit low.

Phhhht. Try paying for an Aussie passport, $400 for 30 pages only, as they have helpfully discontinued the larger passports.

Fuck the good old days. I got mine 1.5km down the road in Chiang Mai. Took less than 3 weeks from submission to return.
