A French woman has been mocked on social media after losing more than €830,000 (£700,000) to scammers posing as the Hollywood actor Brad Pitt.

The 53-year-old interior designer, known only as Anne, thought she was in a year-long romantic relationship with the Fight Club and Ocean's Eleven star.

But after opening up about her ordeal to reporters, she suffered so much trolling that the French television channel TF1 had to pull her interview.

"The story broadcast this Sunday has resulted in a wave of harassment against the witness," TF1 presenter Harry Roselmack wrote on X.

"For the protection of victims, we have decided to withdraw it from our platforms," he added.

At the time of the broadcast, Anne was reported to have been suffering from severe depression.

Anne told TF1's Seven to Eight show that, after starting to use Instagram for the first time, she was contacted by someone posing as Pitt's mother.

"She told me that her son needed someone like me," Anne explained. The scammers messaged her again several days afterwards, this time posing as Brad Pitt.

How can anyone be so foolish? The photos she was sent were so poorly done that it’s laughable.

There could be a sick buffalo or mother. At least it sounds likely to someone who’s never heard that scam before. But, who can believe Brad Pitt’s mother, who you don’t even know, is going to set you up with her son through the internet?

I feel sorry for Brad Pitt if he ever needs to contact me for I would never answer his messages.

She was severely depressed and possibly lonely. It is foolish, but I have seen this is not an unusual thing on some talk shows, Doctor Phil had a whole show about it. lol.

Doctor Phil even found the scammers who said they were a movie star and brought the scammers on the show to confront the people they were scamming.
Hard to believe this happens, but it does more than you think.

Yes, I think it's not uncommon. Women date at their level (sexual market value) or up; men at their level or down. I suspect this makes women more likely to make such a foolish error as this woman. Men know some centerfold like playmate is never going to fall for them online or in real life (unless they're a Chad such as Edmond).
