NYPD Lands in Atlanta to Look for UnitedHealthcare CEO Killer

New York Police Department detectives arrived in Atlanta on Saturday as the search for the UnitedHealthcare assassin continues. Officers traveled to the Georgia city after receiving a large number of tips linked to the yet-to-be unidentified suspect wanted in the murder of healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, ABC News reported. The Atlanta Police Department confirmed the arrival of NYPD officers, but reportedly declined to provide additional details. The suspected shooter allegedly arrived in New York on Nov. 24 on a Greyhound bus from Atlanta. On Dec. 4, the masked gunman shot Thompson at point-blank range outside the New York Hilton Midtown, where the insurance executive’s company was holding an investors conference. After the shooting, police say that the suspected gunman boarded a bus out of New York City. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the murder as “brazen” and “targeted.” And, while the suspect remains at large, authorities released new images of the suspected shooter on Saturday and investigators are said to have followed leads in multiple states.

I think they'll get him. I know the victim was unpopular, but I suspect the police have already received hundreds of tips as to the perp's identity. The US, like Thailand, has plenty of curtain twitchers.

Pennsylvania? And they didn't have to shoot him.

Police are questioning a man in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in connection with the fatal shooting nearly a week ago of a top US health care executive on a busy New York City street, two law enforcement officials familiar with the matter tell CNN.
Working off of a tip, police stopped a person traveling by bus and recovered a suppressor – a device that muffles the sound of a firearm – and a number of false IDs, one official added.
That man is now in custody and being questioned.

Suspect in killing of UnitedHealth executive Brian Thompson in custody

Authorities have arrested the man suspected of killing UnitedHealth executive Brian Thompson in a brazen shooting outside a Manhattan hotel last week, New York City officials said on Monday, ending a massive five-day manhunt.

The suspect, identified as Luigi Mangione, 26, was captured in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after he was spotted eating at a McDonald's by an employee of the fast food restaurant who believed he resembled the gunman, officials said at a news conference.

Mangione was found with a "ghost gun" - a firearm assembled from parts, making it untraceable - and a silencer consistent with the weapon used to shoot Thompson, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said, as well as clothing and a mask similar to those worn by the killer. The ghost gun may have been produced by a 3D printer, said Joseph Kenny, the NYPD's chief of detectives.

Mangione had multiple fraudulent identifications, including a fake New Jersey ID that matched the one used by the gunman to check into a Manhattan hostel days before the shooting, officials said.

Police also found a handwritten document that speaks to "both his motivation and his mindset," Tisch said. While the document did not mention specific targets, Mangione harboured "ill will toward corporate America", Kenny added.

Mangione was born and raised in Maryland, attended college in Pennsylvania, had ties to San Francisco and last lived in Honolulu, officials said.

He was arrested on firearms charges by Altoona police, and New York detectives are on their way to Pennsylvania to question him, Tisch said. He will likely be extradited to New York at some point to face charges related to the murder.

Thompson, 50, was gunned down outside a Manhattan hotel early on Wednesday morning by a masked man who appeared to wait for his arrival before shooting the executive from behind.

The suspect ran from the scene and then rode a bike into Central Park. Surveillance video captured him exiting the park and taking a taxi to a bus station in northern Manhattan, where police believe he used a bus to flee the city.

Police said Thompson appeared to be deliberately targeted.

The words "deny," "defend" and "depose" were carved into shell casings found at the scene, several news outlets have reported. The words evoke the title of a book critical of the insurance industry published in 2010 titled "Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don't Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It."

A Facebook profile that appears to belong to Mangione identified him as a native of Towson, Maryland, and a former student at the University of Pennsylvania. Photos appear to show Mangione at Stanford University wearing Stanford-branded clothing.

Neither university immediately responded to requests for comment.

He's another dumbass university graduate who lives in fantasy land and dreamt he's smarter than experienced blue collar workers (the cops). Mistake after endless fuckin' mistake. He just couldn't resist taking his mask off in the hostel to flirt with the receptionist.

he was found with the gun, the silencer, the clothes he wore and the fake id he used. it's as if he wanted to be caught.

there is a lot of sympathy for this shooting as a result of the general hatred of health insurance companies and their policies.

his defence should prove interesting and garner even more support on the streets, and the lawyers will be trousering millions.

They also recovered clothing, including a mask consistent with those worn by the suspect.

Not to mention the handwritten three-page manifesto which apparently railed against the health insurance industry.

“It had to be done. These parasites had it coming,” the manifesto read, according to CNN.

“I don’t want to cause any trauma, but it had to be done.”

Correction. He was found with "a" gun. There is some doubt that it was the gun used in the shooting. However, time will tell.
