I had a look at a map - the US doesn't really seem to be very close to the Black Sea.

What is your point? The proximity of the US is irrelevant. Do you support ruzzian genocide in Ukraine? Are you a friend of putin?

My apologies, yes of course these are for military use only. I was just correcting you on the generic "no transponder" issue. Mode 5 provides position data to enable tracking of the flight by friendly forces but is not available for the average Joe.

Yes indeed. Because the US always respects international airspace and law;Which is why it is such a proud and active member of the International Criminal Court.

Americans seem to be enamoured with rights. If it was all legit and above board why has someone not said, For instance, that is was a training flight for a new "pilot" based in Turkey.

Very clever tactics by the Russian pilot. Although he did press the fuel release button a tad early.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

No it wasn't. Anyone with any understanding of aviation and flying could clearly see that the pilot lost sight of the drone and misjudged his distance from it, which caused a collision. It was a clear sign of incompetence, a trait that the ruzzians have displayed throughout this war.

So, you are telling me that an aircraft or a drone flying in international airspace in the middle of the Black Sea is somehow not "above board"? Whatever that means. Once again, I am forced to bite my tongue in the news section.

    *sigh*

Funny but I can't seem to remember any Americans being indicted by that court. So keep up the whataboutisms.

Taking a response out of context in relation to the conversation taking place and using "isms" to define and discount, without addressing the main point being made is at best mentally lazy and disingenuous.
I know you are better than that.
Why don't you go back , read the exchange and respond to it with in the context it is made.

So the US are lying about there being physical contact?

    What a surprise.

It is my understanding, and correct me if I am wrong that the US aircraft's transponder was switched off so therefore, there is no third party evidence of the aircraft's actual position at the time of the incident.

Deliberate actions to damage another aircraft in international air is not really doing something right…

Sen. Mark Kelly flew with Russian pilots in the Navy and with NASA, and he said the Russian fighter jet running into a US drone shows 'how incompetent they are'

Sen. Mark Kelly flew with Russian pilots as a US Navy combat pilot and as a NASA astronaut.

He said the incident last week when a Russian fighter jet dumped fuel on and then clipped the propeller of a US military drone shows how "reckless" and "incompetent" they are.

"I'm not surprised by this. I mean, I flew with Russian pilots, fighter pilots who couldn't fly formation. And I watched this video, and it's pretty obvious what happened. He lost sight of it, and he crashed into it," Kelly told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" Sunday.

On Tuesday, two Russian Su-27 fighter jets intercepted a US military MQ-9 Reaper drone that was flying over international waters above the Black Sea. The jets dumped fuel on the drone, and one jet eventually clipped the drone's propeller. The drone eventually crashed into the water.

Insider previously reported that while one think tank analysis suggested this was aggressive messaging by Russia, US officials have said the incident was most likely due to Russians not knowing how to fly.

The incident further soured the tense relationship between Washington and the Kremlin since Russia invaded Ukraine last February.

Kelly compared the fighter jet incident to the "incompetence that we see on the battle field every day in Ukraine."

"That's why the losses that the Russians are suffering right now are really high. At this point I mean, the best choice for Vladimir Putin would be to say: 'Hey, this isn't working,' and he's got to stop this illegal invasion," Kelly said.

U.S. Drones Change Routes Over Black Sea After Russian Jet Incident: Report

The U.S. has directed its surveillance drones to fly south of the routes flown over the Black Sea when two Russian fighter jets intercepted a MQ-9 Reaper drone earlier this month, causing it to crash, two officials told CNN. The drones have reportedly moved away from northern Black Sea airspace near Russian-held territory, including the Crimean peninsula and eastern portions of the Black Sea. One official said the redrawn routes were part of a bid “to avoid being too provocative,” and that they would continue “for the time being.” They added that there was already “an appetite” to return to the previous routes. Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said Tuesday that U.S. drones were still flying over the Black Sea “in international airspace in accordance with international law,” according to CNN. He declined to comment specifically on routes or missions “for operational security reasons.”

As snubby has pointed out, that doesn't stop the ICC indicting an American.

Neither Russia nor China are members either.
