I don't know much about her, or about NZ politics. But I know a class act when I see one.
Someone said, she is the master spiner . What a surprise, a politician that is good at spinning.
Others said "I have never met a Kiwi that likes her". Well someone must like her , otherwise she would not have been elected in the first place. Perhaps you hung out with people that confirm your bias?
Another said that she was in her way out and abandoned a sinking ship. That very well might be the case, but she did not claim, fake news, did not claim rigged elections, or some other propasterouse allegation. She exited with grace ,dignity and CLASS!!

Child's name Neve Te Aroha Ardern
Neve - Anglicised version of Irish 'Niamh' means 'bright, radiant'
Te Aroha - name of town in region JA grew up, translates in te reo Māori as 'love'

    Where's the conspiracy, spin?

i think most of the board recall his Jacinda rants in the Covid thread becoz she brought the curtain down on air travel/NZ entry/exit - now conveniently he's forgotten all about it.

I was 'trapped' in NZ through Covid, I missed flying back here by 8 days. However I made the most of it, and looking back a memorable part of my working career, time in health with three District Health Boards then an impartial role with NZ's Parliamentary Service for six months until this time last year. Opportunities I wouldn't otherwise have had. Difficult away from family but many had it far worse. Met and worked with dedicated professionals, even won a few battles with immigration.

damned if she did, damned if she didn't. At time there was so much advice from so call experts flying around that i wouldn't have liked to be the one sorting the wheat from chaff and making the calls.

    Well a few liked her.

In the most recent NZ General Election (Oct 2020) Jacinda Ardern gained 70.1% of the vote in her electorate.
The Labour Party gained 50.0% across the country giving them 65 seats from 120 under the MMP voting system, allowing them to govern without needing the support of a coalition partner.
The first time a NZ party has been able to govern without a coalition agreement since MMP was introduced in 1996.

The main opposition, National Party, received 25.6% of the vote, giving them 33 seats from 120.

If anything, that's an understatement prawnograph. The current NZ Tory leader is incompetent and a real bore. He's a former chief executive, clueless and full of dull corporate speak. I think many Kiwi women still love Ardern. The Tory leader would have had real problems competing with Ardern in an election campaign. Ardern was capable of winning the next election. She's a very competent politician up against a lightweight. I do, however, agree with some of PH's points. The wokeness under Labour is awful.

Wrong. There wasn't any Covid in NZ for perhaps 2 years. This meant great freedom for people within the country. NZers and particularly those outside Auckland haven't faced many restrictions at all. Life went on without masks and social distancing. The death rate here is still low. Few of our parents have died. Ardern did very well against Covid. The nutters against vaccinations etc. are a small minority.

If I've forgotten surely you can quote my 'hatred' and that I don't like taking orders from women. Come on, Toots, shed your MI5/SAS mantle and come clean.

Ah, Toots//strglishit/mike etc... how many times have you been banned, perma-jailed, miserabled etc... yet still go on your drunken rants.

Try, just try to stick to the topic. Go on, you can do it.

In a show of solidarity at how well Ardern steered the ship there's nothing like your successor ditching many of her most prominent policies . . . announced practically on DAY 1 of his appointment.

New Zealand’s new PM signals policy overhaul to win back voters

    Unpopular policies

With an economic downturn expected as interest rates soar, he faces an uphill battle to win Labour a third term on October 14.
Labour has pursued a number of policies that have been unpopular or seen as expensive by many voters, including the proposed merging of state-owned radio and television stations and an overhaul of ownership of the country’s water infrastructure.
Ms Ardern also alienated some voters with policies that involved co-governance between Māori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, and the Crown. Mr Hipkins may seek to diffuse those concerns, though he must do so without angering the Māori members of Labour’s caucus.
“I think there is an uncertainty among New Zealanders around what we mean when we’re talking about co-governance,” he said. “I don’t want to get hung up on what has become a catchphrase.”
Chris Hipkins, New Zealand’s new prime minister signals policy overhaul to win back voters after Jacinda Ardern resigns

Some say unpopular and others say disastrous, divisive, pandering, ill-advised and downright stupid. A good time to bail, when you are fairly assured of losing the next election.
