I'm generally a fan of the monarchy because I don't financially contribute to their lives but can we please get the Tele back to normal? And keep the football on. A week of death seems a bit grim.

Who is next in line for the throne after the King? Here's the British royal line of succession in order

Young Prince Charles was the heir to the British throne since his mother became Queen in 1952.
But now that he is King, there is a new heir.

The dynamic system of succession, based on old and new laws, gets longer as more children and grandchildren of the heir and future heir are born, pushing siblings further down the list.

Here's where the successors of King Charles III currently rank.

As I understand it, Harry's offspring are now Prince and Princess respectively.

So the Queen's funeral will be a bank holiday and likely a week Monday.

King Charles approves bank holiday for day of Queen’s funeral

The King has approved an order that the day of the Queen’s funeral will be a bank holiday.

The date of the funeral has not yet been announced, but it is thought it could be held on Monday 19 September, at the end of the 10-day period of mourning.

It was previously unclear whether or not there would be a bank holiday for the funeral, which will be the first state funeral held in the UK for 50 years. But King Charles made an order for one during his first meeting with the privy council on Saturday.

The new king confirmed the public holiday during the ceremony – the first to be televised – at which he was officially proclaimed as the new monarch.

Unexpected extra day's holiday in September. Result.

However, I had earlier read - before Charlie confirmed it - that it wasn't to be called a bank holiday, but a day of mourning.

Had my weekly chat with my mum. She pointed out with some amusement that Charles III is her 5th monarch. She was born in the 1930s when George V was on the throne. Her count does include Edward VIII who was King, but never crowned.

The route her late Majesty’s coffin will take from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster to lie in state has been revealed.

After lying in rest at St Giles’s Cathedral in Edinburgh, the Queen’s coffin will be flown to London on Tuesday evening, before lying in state at Westminster Hall for four days.

In guidance to the public, the Government said a ceremonial procession would transport the late monarch’s coffin from Buckingham Palace at 2.22pm on Wednesday.

It will proceed along The Mall, Horse Guards Road, across Horse Guards Parade and onto Whitehall to Parliament Square and into the Palace of Westminster.

The Queen's name has been inscribed alongside her mother's, father's and husband's on the ledger stone in the Windsor chapel where she is buried.

The late monarch was laid to rest together with the Duke of Edinburgh on Monday evening in a private service attended by the King and other members of the Royal Family, which followed her state funeral at Westminster Abbey and committal service in Windsor.

Buckingham Palace said the inscription on the ledger stone in the George VI Memorial Chapel now had the names of the Queen, her parents and Philip, along with their years of birth and death.

The stone, which is new, has replaced the black stone slab set into the floor, which had featured the names George VI and Elizabeth in gold lettering.

The fresh stone now says, in list form, "George VI 1895-1952" and "Elizabeth 1900-2002" followed by a metal Garter Star, and then "Elizabeth II 1926-2022" and "Philip 1921-2021". No image has been released of the new stone.

    Pretty interesting.

The kid was asking about the banknotes last night, and when will Charles be on them, and if people would still be able to use the banknotes with the queen's picture.

I added it will be very odd for everyone when they do change as the queen must have been on them for 70 odd years, thus they're all everyone has ever known unless they are perhaps 80 years old and can remember the banknotes they used at age 10, 70 years ago.

By the sounds of things Ol' Eddie the Eighth never made it onto the ol' coke-straws.
