    RIP Queen Elizabeth II.

I feel sad too, even if I wasn't her subject. The rhyme/ phrase "I've been to London to visit the Queen" was one of the early snippets that let me know (as a kid) that England/ UK still has a monarchy. I respected and admired QE II, and I feel that I've known more of her/ her family via The Crown. (Yeah, I know it's fictional but there are elements of truth).

It will be interesting to see if the monarchy survives in the next few years.

Talk over the last few years is that after her passing Charles will use this opportunity to re-scale the monarchy and those entitled to support within it. If he does he'll probably gain some measure of respect from the pubic given the problems the family has been beset by over the past few years.

I first swore allegiance to Her Majesty in 1968 on joining HM Forces. In the years that have passed, that allegiance, loyalty and respect has never wavered.

Her Majesty came to symbolise all that is meant by personal integrity, duty and compassion, and her care for her family, the nation, and those who had chosen her as a Head of State within the Commonwealth.

A small person, but a giant on the world stage, her's will not be a hard act, but an impossible one to follow.

    RIP Ma'am.

The funeral will be 10 days after her death, which should mean next Sunday. However, it's uncommon for funerals to take place on a Sunday (I've never known it) and Diana's and Philip's were on Saturdays.

It will be Saturday, won't it? People off work, easier to travel etc.

I think it will more likely be the Monday, which will be a day off as a mark of respect.

In 1951 as a young boy in Moose Jaw, the family went to the train station to see her during her inaugural visit to Canada while she was still Princess Elizabeth. She and new husband Prince Philip made a coast-to-coast tour of the country.

Was a big deal for Canadians. All in all she made 22 visits to Canada during her reign.

A great lady who will go down in history as one of the greatest Monarchs ever.

    Rest in peace.

Whatever I may think of Boris, he made a fine tribute to the Queen...

^I read that with Boris' voice in my head.

Say what you will about Boris, but that was a beautiful tribute/ eulogy.

    Thanks @troy for posting it.

I have seen 19th September as the most suggested, but nothing firm yet.

I've read some rumours (comments on news stories) that she probably died in her sleep.

There was also a mention that her hand appeared bluish in the photo where she shook the hand of Liz Truss to congratulate her during their meeting earlier this week.

bluish hands/ extremities (cyanosis) could be a sign that there's a problem with the heart/ lungs and the cells aren't getting enough oxygenated blood

It was her time and she's lived a long, fruitful life. I didn't expect that it would be this soon after the new PM, though. She's like everyone's mother/ grandma and I thought she would live to 100+. I guess losing Prince Philip last year, plus covid, Andy, H&M, etc all took a toll on her. RIP QE II.

Watching the next season of The Crown later this year will feel different. (sad)

Indeed, she got the jubilee out the way and i think she probably thought .... that's enough

Does this now give those two self promoting spoilt brats their opportunity to "reveal" more Royal gossip, personally i wish they'd jet off back to Merca and just stay where they belong.

Partly but she did a hell of good job holding things together through some times. Managed to expand the Commonwealth from 8 members to 54 members representing two billion people.

    A very talented lady.

No. It was too localized. The back of the hand is a chosen site to insert an IV line. I would think that bruising was indicative that she had been on an IV line for some time.

Yeah. Cyanosis was among the rumours in the news item. As you've said, she's probably been on IV for some time. She prolly just summoned the strength for Liz Truss and the paps. She looked very frail in their meeting/ vid.

    That article doesn't mention Friday.

However the consensus is that the funeral would be 10 days after her death, which is Sunday 18th.

Monday 19th is probably the most likely: It would also give the police and military longer to carry out all the logistics.
