Plane Carrying 133 Crashes In China, Causes Mountain Fire

The jet involved in the accident was a Boeing 737 aircraft and the number of casualties was not immediately known, CCTV said. Rescue was on its way, it said.

Beijing: A China Eastern passenger jet carrying 133 people has crashed in southwest China and caused a mountain fire with casualties unknown, state broadcaster CCTV reported Monday.

The Boeing 737 plane crashed in the rural countryside near Wuzhou city, Guangxi region and "caused a mountain fire", CCTV said, citing the provincial emergency management bureau.

The report added that rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.
CCTV said a "China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 plane carrying 133 people has crashed in Teng county, Wuzhou, Guangxi, and caused a mountain fire."

The China Eastern flight from Kunming to Guangzhou departed at 1.11 pm local time (0511 GMT), FlightRadar24 data showed. The flight tracking ended at 2.22 pm local time (0622 GMT) an altitude of 3225 feet with a speed of 376 knots.

Reports suggest it was a 737-800 (not a max) and that it fell from cruising altitude very quickly.

    There won't be any survivors...

The plane had been cruising at an altitude 29,100 feet at 0620 GMT, according to FlightRadar24 data. Just over two minutes and 15 seconds later, the next available data showed it had descended to 9,075 feet. In another 20 seconds, its last tracked altitude was 3,225 feet.

Numerous reports that it went in nose first.

Seems to have dropped like a stone.

Assuming the loss of both engines, the glide path ratio of a 737-800 is about 3:1 glide ratio roughly. Depending on weight, temperature and other variables.

Meaning 3 metres forward for the loss of 1 metre in altitude.

Complete failure of horizontal stabiliser * or terrorism spring to mind.

    * which could be caused by rear pressure bulkhead failure as happened on this flight operated by....

    China Airlines.

Mind you the plane was only delivered in 2015, so unless it suffered some damage beforehand, unlikely to be a maintenance issue.

how strangely convenient that someone just happened to in the right spot filming an empty sky when a plane suddenly nosedives and crashes centre frame.

Apparently, that was caught on a CCTV camera located at a nearby mine.

aaah, the wobbling picture must be due to it being filmed off the cctv monitor on someones mobile phone.

It looks like some type of push-over event, as the aircraft did not spin or roll on the descent as it was intact on that cctv footage. Run-away trim or a run-away jackscrew might be the cause but will have to wait to see if the flight recorder can be recovered. What is odd though is that speed is not shown to increase at all on the ADSB data which you would expect with a sudden nose-down. RIP to 132 souls.

Several possibilities besides suicide but difficult to say at the moment. Personally, I don't think it was suicide.

It doesn't help that the 737 is ancient technology. Look at this checklist. Trim wheel, grasp and hold

Skiddy, you do the same on an A320, manual trim to override.

Now fuck off, there's a good chap.

Legit investigators haven't said anything and are unlikely to until their interim findings are published.

    The A320 isn't 60's tech but is 80's.

Its in the link I posted. Its poorly written. It looks like the editor fuct up actually.

Another crash that was similar occurred on Dec. 19, 1997, when a pilot on a Silk Air 737-300 carrying 104 people dove into a river in Indonesia, killing everyone aboard. It was falling at more than 38,000 feet per minute, according to that nation’s National Transportation Safety Committee.
    Too Soon for Conclusions

A pilot most likely crashed that plane deliberately, the NTSB concluded. The plane’s cockpit and flight-data recorder systems were mysteriously shut off shortly, so detailed information about the trajectory of the dive weren’t available.

^^ The wheel was invented circa 4000bc. Does that mean it shouldn't be used because it's ancient technology?

Why bring up stab trim if you think it was a suicide pilot?

Not without horizontal stabilisers there aren't, or if someone is pointing it straight in, Silk Air style.
