trend
For the last three and a half decades, the number of coal mining jobs in the US has collapsed from 180,000 to 42,500 in August.
It's a sad state of affairs really.
US companies are exporting natural gas to make a killing. Meanwhile it drives up coal demand with the associated climate downside.
And this is why I think they should be taxed to fuck to pay for the development of renewables.
They're just trousering cash and fuck mankind.

Here in Oz coal power generation is definitely on the decrease- but we still sell plenty of our coal to the rest of the world. But it's cleaner coal! I believe India is our biggest market here, not China. South Australia, thanks to our abundant sunshine and even wind in certain places, pretty much leads the world in renewable power generation. At times we have way more solar power than we can possibly use- and some of that gets funneled into the eastern state grids.
^ Yes indeed. It is owned by one of Li Ka Shing's many companies. Not sure if Li himself has deemed it worthy to ever visit our humble abode.
Some coal are less dirty than the next one
Lignite - Wikipedia
^from your link
The combustion of lignite produces less heat for the amount of carbon dioxide and sulfur released than other ranks of coal. As a result, environmental advocates have characterized lignite as the most harmful coal to human health
Seems the US is happy to chip in and help China out with more coal...
U.S. coal production is up sharply
Coal production is up in 2021. Just don't expect the same next year : NPRNow, surging global demand has chipped away at the supply. James Stevenson with IHS-Markit says coal demand is especially high in the Asia-Pacific region.
"There isn't enough coal in China," says Stevenson. "Japan's had more coal demand. So there's a scramble to buy coal from where you can."
Including from producers in the U.S.
