Supreme Court hears Mississippi attempt at overturning Roe vs Wade

Well this slipped under the radar.

The fascists and handmaids on SCOTUS are rubbing their hands with glee that it got this far.

The Supreme Court seemed poised Wednesday to uphold a Mississippi law that bars abortion after 15 weeks, but it is less clear if there is a clear majority to end the right to abortion nationwide, although conservative justices expressed skepticism about the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

The dispute represents the culmination of a decades-long effort on the part of critics of the landmark opinion that legalized abortion nationwide to return the issue to the states, a move that would almost immediately eviscerate abortion rights in large swaths of the South and the Midwest.
The very fact that the current court, with its solid six-member conservative majority, agreed to even consider a state law that bars abortion long before viability suggests that the court -- bolstered by three of former President Donald Trump's appointees -- is poised to scale back court precedent if not reverse it outright. Already, in a separate dispute, the court is considering a Texas law that bars the procedure after six weeks and the justices have allowed that law to remain in place for three months, rendering Roe a dead letter in the country's second largest state.

Fvcking hypocrites. “My body, my choice.”
As long as you’re trying to avoid a Covid vaccine, and not a woman in need of an abortion.

^ 50 million abortions thus far, in the USA, that's 50 million less welfare recipients, is what a [at][at][at][at] would say.

It's hard to argue with that, but people will definitely find some kind of rationalization....they always do.

This is why the US is fucked.

A man who still faces credible accusations of sexual assault and a woman part of a fundamentalist religious sect will help to decide whether to legalize forced birth or not.

And of the 9 justices they make 2 of 3 who were appointed by a man who was elected by a minority and tried to overthrow the US government.

...there is no constitutional reason for the government to come between a female and her doctor...none...the continued separation of church and state should be reinforced...

Be interesting to see if unborn Black lives matter.
Mixing morlas by politicians without them always ends badly.

What we are seeing is some kinda feral reactionaries who while living in a trailer on the edge of a US city with no health insurance feel superior to cheese eating monkeys paddies and polacks .

It is not as if abortions will end , they'll just go backstreet and endless tragedy and costs financial health and social.

Whether poor people should get wealth transfers from the better off to feed their kids is a different debate often conflated by those who feel morally superior, yet vote for a degenerate like Trump a man with no principles.

^ absolutely agree, (to a point) I mean cutting up recognizable little babies for experiments is too far for me. and I 100% agree that those decisions should be between any person and their doctor. But I can understand the Heartbeat point too, same as I can understand a person being convicted of killing an unborn if they kicked a pregnant woman in the guts.

Trumps SCOTUS appointments will have a far longer impact than anything else he did as president.

My guess is that Roe v Wade is dead in the water.

    Of course they did.

The Supreme Court ruled to allow the Texas abortion law to remain, which bans abortions past six weeks gestation. The Court is also allowing abortion providers to sue the state in federal court, but only state licensing officials.

So judge Drunkey McRapeyface and judge Stepford Wife who were put on the SCOTUS by a two-time impeached lying conman elected by a minority of voters get to decide reproductive rights for women.

    Seems legit.
