    UK struggles without CO2

Amazed to read that 60% of the UK's CO2 production comes from just two foreign-owned factories.

Given its importance in various supply chains, that is an oversight to say the least.

^ alongside a number of Brexit and COVID related logistical factors, which have contributed to highlighting the UK needs to review its critical supplies in light of national security. The UK ain't alone here though.

My sister has been telling me for a while that there is a critical shortage of tonic water due to the CO2 supply issue. This is seriously disrupting her gin and tonic schedule.

very little to do with brexit and more to do with the rise in gas prices (putins control on supply, green levies and the energy price cap) and green levies imposed on C02 manufacturers by a deluded government that thinks that by reducing britains already miniscule greenhouse gas production we can save the world.

i wont say that brexit hasnt caused some bumps in the road, but the relish with which remainers rush like gormless sheep to embrace every negative story and blame it on the fact we’ve left the eu is risible.

"the government’s utopian approach to environmentalism – including the end of coal power, shunning fracking, and demanding we drive electric vehicles powered by renewable energy – has always come at a cost. But seldom has that cost been so painful as that exacted by russia’s apparent rigging of the price of gas through its supply company gazprom.

preening ourselves about our green credentials, and thus choosing not to exploit huge gas resources under our land and in our own waters, we have made britain enormously vulnerable. we foolishly talk up our ability to be powered by renewables – a form of electricity generation that has yet to meet the rhetorical claims politicians make for it. instead, we are at the mercy of russia’s decisions about the price of gas: and our vulnerability increases as other factors harm our power supplies"

believing, as the climate change zealots do, that modern industrialised nations with high consumer needs can survive on renewables is utter madness and as western nations ban petrol and diesel, vilify fracking, drilling for oil and coal and tax anything that emits a puff of smoke or CO2 whilst glorifying electric and run scared from nuclear we are just condemning ourselves to more economic ruin, shortages and unrest in society whilst china, russia and india plough on advancing their economies and raising their living standards.

43% of the UK's electricity was generated from renewables last year.

    59% from low carbon sources.

What on earth are you babbling about? Were you expecting 100% or something?

Talk about being out of step.

Have you spent much time trying to breathe in any of those places lately?

I heard it's quite an important activity.

I thought this was odourous nonsense until the Tonic issue highlighted I feel the pain.Apparently bu products are needed to produce trad Christian meal of Turkey

Not sure if DIY sodastream or sparklets bulbs still sold for DIY, no prob here my wife assures me I'm forever blowing bubbles.

The UK is indeed doing well with more coming on stream, however wind generated power in which the UK is heavily invested is inconsistent and that have proven problematic this summer. Lets hope the UK finds the right mix of renewable/low carbon but given the UK is historically poor at strategic planning i don't hold out much hope.

In other news the new electricity connection to Norway is up and running.

As much as I would love to blame it on Vlad, he is not the sole driving factor in a global price rise.

It's a combination of factors and the government trying to get out of the gas business prematurely is certainly one of them.

Supplies are plentiful, but as is usual speculators are bumping up already high prices.

The UK has to "weather the storm" excuse the pun.

^ sort of, and certainly removing the UKs largest gas storage facility in 2017 was not the brightest move whilst we are still reliant on gas use.

I thought the problem was that we had way too much COČ. Leave it to the Brits to screw that up too.
