Slaughter of 1500 dolphins in Denmark sparks outrage

In keeping with the annual, 'barbaric' tradition of killing dolphins, nearly 1500 of these mammals were killed in Faroe Island in Denmark. The images and videos from the event held over the weekend depicted water and shoreline becoming red with blood of dead dolphins. The hunt has sparked outrage and drawn sharp reaction from animal rights activists.

The hunt is called Grindadrap.dolphins are herded by motorboats towards the shore. They are then killed by the whalers on the shores using harpoons and even power drills. Grindadrap is considered to be an example of traditional 'aboriginal whaling'

As per local media reports, 1428 dolphins were killed during the hunt over the weekend. Tweets showing horrific photos and videos of the hunt did rounds.

Animal rights activists are up in arms over the practice. Blue Planet Society urged Danish authorities as well as the EU to stop the annual hunt

Whilst i disagree strongly with any whaling and the bullshit research tag countries like Norway and Japan use to justify its continuance, there a certain stench of hypocrisy over the outcry vs other forms of fishing or animal culls.

The whales are probably so polluted with lead and such, that those islanders will get even weirder and slowly die out.

    Problem solved

Just for the record, I am fairly sure those are NOT pilot whales - I think they are Atlantic white-sided dolphins.

    (Hence the title).

    I'm pretty sure that

    a) they were dolphins.

    b) they were Danes.

Helge is just trying to obfuscate.

If they are not going to eat their kill, and by the sound of it they aren't, then they are just bloodythirsty scandihooligan thugs and really someone should just go and shoot the lot of them and dispose of their carcasses in the sea where they might actually serve some use.

I see that some in danish media agrees with you.

    I learned something new

    On the same note:

If you want to do good for the dolphins, then stop eating tuna.

(I also read that many in the Faroes are tired of this whale killing, so there might be better times ahead)

You should watch Seaspiracy on Netflix. Dolphin friendly labels are largely a load of bollocks.
