You proof to us everyday here on TD that your "Verstand" is very limited. Even though you have a choice of press, which unfortunately not everyone has.

The Russian government certainly does not control Meduza- but I am pleased you share my reservations about RFA hermano.

^All the same waffling about the state controlled media and the "independent".

If you would know something more than what the "independent" media trumpeting, you would be surprised to learn that the people in the "oppressed" countries never had believed what the communist propaganda told them, just in contrary. So they couldn't been brainwashed by communist propaganda, in contrary, they had always dreamed about the "American Dream", because the communist propaganda had never come to such "believable" quality as the Hollywood propaganda.

However, in the American Dream had never been mentioned the never ending worry about jobs, about tax, about affordable dwelling, about free schooling, free health care, old age pension, etc, nobody had had such worry. And if they mentioned to friends in West that the wife gets mother care money of 2 years full salary after baby delivery, they thought they pulled their leg (because the Hollywood propaganda does not disclose such mysteries).

I placed here few months ago a article of a clever man (unfortunately died prematurely - for many quite mysteriously) who tried to explain to HK young people what's all this about... (see the links below)

Now, after Fall of Berlin Wall (as R.R. ordered Mr. Gorbachov to tear it down) people in the Eastern Bloc have been given chance to learn more about the "American Dream", learning that a lot hadn't been told them.

And if you have chance to read forums from people of former Eastern Germany - and of the others liberated regimes - you are surprised that the people speak differently than 30 years ago.

Happiness, that elusive measure. It's not a race to the bottom, but I would not describe either Russia or the US as being particularly happy countries.

Life was so good there that they had to build a wall to stop Eastern Germany from being overcrowded by immigrants from the west.

Putin Enacts Fines for Sharing Unlabeled ‘Foreign Agent’ Media Reports

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law fines for publishing information and reports from “foreign agent” media without identifying the outlet’s status amid what observers call tightening restrictions on dissent ahead of key elections.

Under to the new law that Putin signed Friday, media organizations can be fined up to 50,000 rubles ($650) for distributing a report without indicating that the distributed material was produced by a “foreign agent.”

Individual journalists face fines of up to 2,500 rubles ($33) and officials up to 5,000 rubles ($66) for the same violations.

The penalties were introduced 10 days after Russia declared Meduza, one of the country’s most-read independent news outlets, a “foreign agent.” Its chief editor Ivan Kolpakov has said the designation will allow Russian authorities to block Meduza and imprison its journalists for reporting errors as well as press felony charges against him.

Meduza, which began publishing out of Latvia in 2014 after its then-chief editor was driven out of Russia, is among 19 news outlets currently labeled “foreign agents.”

Russia in 2017 labeled the U.S. government-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Voice of America news outlets as “foreign agents” after Russian state-funded RT was declared a foreign agent in the United States.

The new media penalties come two months after Putin introduced fines of up to 2,500 rubles for anyone who shares information about or republishes the work of “foreign agents” without the appropriate designation.

The “foreign agents” law first passed in 2012 initially targeted media outlets and civil society groups and has since been gradually expanded to encompass individual journalists and bloggers. Critics say the law’s rigorous auditing requirements for branded entities and steep fines for violations have a chilling effect on Russian civil society.

The latest update to Russia's "foreign agents" law comes ahead of this fall's parliamentary elections, where the Kremlin seeks to maintain the ruling, pro-Putin United Russia party's majority despite its historically low approval ratings.

Russia Adds U.S. News Site RFE/RL to ‘Foreign Agent’ Roster

Russia has added the legal entity of U.S.-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty news organization to its list of “foreign agent” media Wednesday under a controversial law that requires listed outlets to disclose their funding sources.

President Vladimir Putin signed the law in November 2017, allowing the “foreign agent” designation to be placed on news outlets that receive funding from abroad. Russian lawmakers said they acted in response to U.S. pressure for Kremlin-funded media to register under anti-propaganda laws, a claim that RFE/RL’s parent company called “severely” misguided.

RFE/RL’s Russian legal entity becomes the 11th news organization to be added to Russia’s roster of “foreign agents.”

The list is entirely made up of RFE/RL’s Russian-language regional branches and other U.S.-funded outlets, including the Voice of America broadcaster and their joint project Current Time TV.

RFE/RL said it had filed the paperwork to register its Russian-language service, known as Radio Svoboda, as a “foreign agent” with Russia’s tax authorities last month.

Russia has gradually expanded its “foreign agent” law targeting NGOs since 2012 to include “undesirable” organizations and media outlets. A December 2019 law also expanded the “foreign agent” label to encompass individual journalists and bloggers.

Did Putin really challenge Biden to a live debate? Sounds a bit fishy to me.
