    Fearful Amid Anti-Asian Attacks

Yong Sin Kim, an 85-year-old Korean immigrant, pauses for photos in his apartment in downtown Los Angeles, Thursday, March 25, 2021. Kim said he rarely leaves home these days. When he does, he carries a whistle with him, his only defense against random attacks targeting the defenseless. "We don't go out at all. We stay home all day as if we are locked up," said Kim. "I can't even think of going for a walk." Photo: Jae C. Hong / AP

^Not hard to work out. Read the article. COVID fears with the blame laid daily and publicly on China is surely a large part of it. Inner city Asians, particularly Koreans and certainly in LA, tend to have shops in low income neighborhoods and are generally the first targets in riots - premise being that their shops are exploiting the poor residents, who fail to take into account that once they burn them out, the nearest place to cash their welfare checks, sell their food stamps, and buy fortified wine will be miles away. Chinese are hated for being smart, and taking away slots in prestigious schools from deserving trailer trash who worked hard for their GED.

Most Americans couldn't tell a North Asian from a SEAsian with photo aids. The targets of choice may be North Asian, but any gook will do ya.

And all whipped up and exacerbated by cynical, populist politicians like trump. It was little different in the run up to the Iraq invasion, and the bile being spewed about 'ragheads'.

^Indeed. Further to ^^, immigrants of any ilk are resented by a huge segment of the great American uneducated and unwashed, who see immigrants as often successful within a generation, while they are still the trailer trash failures their ancestors were - dropping out, breeding, drinking, gittin they high on and sucking up dem benefits.

She’s back now (will receive the second vaccination shot next week) and shouldn’t see the inside of a hospital.

Ironically, in Thailand it's the white farang that are treated with suspicion as the covid carriers.

    Where's "here" Klondyke?

Out here in the far west of Canada this hatred of Asians is nothing new and runs back a good 150 years if not more. Having relatively large populations of Chinese and Sub-Continental Indians spreads the targeted group around quite a bit, pleanty to go around as well.

It's disgraceful but unfortunately the hard core redneck culture that exist out this way isn't going away any time soon.

An additional factor out this way is that Meng Wanzhou stays under mansion arrest while two Canadians, accused of spying, have spend going on three years in the Beijing Hilton.

    So no great mystery.

He's just desperate for a reaction.

Unfortunately for him he doesn't make enough sense to get anyone riled, but he keeps on and on trying.

Senate passes anti-Asian hate crimes bill in rare bipartisan moment

The Senate voted 94-1 on Thursday to pass legislation that aims to improve anti-Asian hate crime tracking and identification.

Canada today shut down all air traffic from India and Pakistan do the current situation in those countries.

Along with the shutdown came an explicit reminder that Indians and Pakistani's should not be singled out and criticised.

Fuck Trudeau. It's the people bringing the variants, not the planes.

I think all direct flights are cut off. And anybody entering the country will have to have aco-vid test from their last point of departure. And once here they are invited to stay for ten days in a government approved hotel?

There are always ways in, apparently coming in by private jet is okay.

It's a dog's breakfast and is going to piss a lot of sub-continental Indians off, for sure. My agreement on Trudeau.

It's 3 days, and quite a few people have just left when they got there, with no repercussions. Also, that quarantine starts after they carry on across the country on crowded domestic flights.

The Liberals have handled the response poorly in my view. A dogs breakfast.

Yet, I'll bet they get returned with a majority in the Fall.

House sends anti-Asian hate bill to Biden's desk

In a big bipartisan vote, House lawmakers on Tuesday passed legislation aimed at combating the sharp rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans that have occurred since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The bill now goes to President Biden, who is expected to sign it into law as soon as Thursday, in the middle of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The bill passed in a 364-62 vote, with all no votes coming from Republicans. The Senate last month approved the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act on a 94-1 vote, with Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) the lone "no" vote.

“After a year of the Asian American community crying out for help, today Congress is taking historic action to pass long overdue hate crimes legislation and send the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act to President Biden's desk,” Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, told reporters before the vote.

The broad bipartisan vote demonstrates just how much these “daily tragedies of anti-Asian violence have shocked our nation into action,” Chu said.

“It is a momentous day,” added Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who represents a San Francisco district where multiple anti-Asian hate incidents have occurred, including the death last year of an elderly Thai American man and the stabbing of two Asian American women just this month.

    Stats would be good.

Here in NZ a Caucasian woman accosted my wife after she asked her to please cover her mouth when sneezing. The woman turned on my wife and used the same crap that is ever-so-common; 'go back to where you come from', 'we don't want Asians here' etc . . . as the woman was Kiwi size (equates to normal European Male size) a Maori who was also standing in line turned to the woman and suggested she kept her mouth shut, covered and think about what it means for a white Kiwi telling anyone to go back to where they come from.

Said woman left the queue and exited he pharmacy.

Not saying it's only white people . . . but stats would be good.

Interestingly, there is very little racism by Maori or Pasifika towards Asians . . . due to Maori/Pasifika originally haling from SE Asia . . . Indonesia, PNG etc . . . They have grown quite a bit along the way.

Now, towards Caucasians . . . yup, quite a bit for a multitude of reasons

Lets be honest here, does anybody really believe that Racism will ever stop? I say NFW. Humans are humans. Look at the horrible things people do to each other globally. Protest all you want. Raise flags and banners all you want. In the grand scheme of things, It means little to nothing. I have a few Chinese long time friends and they laugh saying us Chinese are the most racist on the planet. We just do not have your relentless media agencies pushing their narrative.

This is why I say BLM and all this new fangled "Woke" is just a bunch of BS. The only winners are the "Leaders" of those groups that appoint themselves CEO, CFO etc. Its a business. This isn't like the MLK period.
