US, EU, Britain, Canada Impose Sanctions on Chinese Officials Over Uyghurs

The United States, the European Union, Britain and Canada have imposed sanctions on several Chinese officials for human rights abuses against the Muslim Uyghur minority in China's Xinjiang province, prompting retaliation from China.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the U.S. sanctions were taken in solidary with U.S. allies.
"A united transatlantic response sends a strong signal to those who violate or abuse international human rights, and we will take further actions in coordination with like-minded partners," Blinken said in a statement Monday.
The U.S. Treasury Department said Monday it was sanctioning two Chinese officials — Wang Junzheng, former deputy party secretary in Xinjiang, and Chen Mingguo, director of the Xinjiang Public Security Bureau. The EU and Britain sanctioned those same officials, along with two others — Wang Mingshan, a member of the Communist Party's standing committee in Xinjiang, and Zhu Hailun, former head of China's Xinjiang region.
China's Foreign Ministry responded immediately after the first sanctions were announced, denouncing them as "based on nothing but lies and disinformation." China then announced its own sanctions against 10 European individuals and four institutions, saying they had "maliciously spread lies and disinformation." Those sanctioned included five members of the European Parliament. The EU sanctions are the first significant economic penalties it has placed on China since 1989, when Beijing was cited for its violent crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Tiananmen Square.
The EU accused Chen of being responsible for "arbitrary detentions and degrading treatment inflicted upon Uyghurs and people from other Muslim ethnic minorities, as well as systematic violations of their freedom of religion or belief," according to its Official Journal. The Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps Public Security Bureau was also sanctioned by Britain and the European Union. All 27 EU governments agreed to the sanctions. Canada's foreign ministry said: "Mounting evidence points to systemic, state-led human rights violations by Chinese authorities."
Separately Monday, Blinken along with the foreign ministers of four countries — Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada — released a joint statement that said the evidence of China's abuses in Xinjiang, "including from the Chinese Government's own documents, satellite imagery, and eyewitness testimony is overwhelming." "We will continue to stand together to shine a spotlight on China's human rights violations," they said.
Human rights advocates say about 1 million Uyghurs are being held in camps. Some accuse Beijing of torture, forced sterilization and forced labor. China maintains its actions in Xinjiang are to root out Islamic extremism. Zhang Ming, China's ambassador to the EU, said last week that sanctions would not impact Beijing's policies and warned of retaliation.
"We want dialogue, not confrontation. We ask the EU side to think twice. If some insist on confrontation, we will not back down, as we have no options other than fulfilling our responsibilities to the people in our country," he said.

I hope this is a "new" thread and there isn't another one hidden away in the weeds somewhere here.

My view is that it's about bloody time the western nations came together and at last provided a united front vis-a-vis Chinese behaviour.

I'm curious about Australia and New Zealand. Perhaps these two are too vulnerable to Chinese economic pressures to reasonably join in?

In terms of the EU, I'm led to believe that Hungary is not party to the resolution? I may be wrong on that and stand to be corrected.

The leaders of Hungary have sold their country and their people out and have their snouts in the "belt and owed" trough. They are even forcing the chinky "vaccine" on them. So this would be no surprise.

You do know that there is actually a Muslim insurgency in China that carries out terrorist attacks that kill innocent people right ?

There are people fighting back against the Chinese forces (or were) for sure. You could say the same for Tibet if you consider groups of monks fighting back against Chinese genocide an insurgency. The CPC has been particularly aggressive and brutal in putting down any groups that might choose to maintain any measure of cultural identify. In my opinion they committed and are committing genocide in Tibet and in the northwestern provinces. It's horrific, it's brutal and at some point these nasty fuckers are going to have to be held to account for all they have done.

Would you at least agree that China is committing a genocide against the Uighurs?

Would you agree that the west has to act together and provide a united front against the CPP?

    Cheers.

New map for China. Break it up into 5 different countries under ethnic and sectarian lines. Great idea

Thanks for posting that Backspin. I'll have to look at the documentaries later.

On the map above. What is the status of the Cantonese people in the far south? What is the status of Taiwan.

Looking at that map just reminds me of the tumultuous history of the the area from around 1890 onwards. I honestly don't think the Chinese have much love for long-noses.

    Anyway, back on track.

Good to see some synchronised accusations. Presumably all have used the same evidence/"rules" to arrive at similar accusations?

What's the % of UN recognised countries included within the "Group", 10%, 40%, 80% ....? Or is it a clique of disgruntled failed/failing countries hearsay?

What time window is being investigated?

The last six months, last decade, last century, last millennium ....

Chinese history includes a great deal, (unlike some countries who are still at the diaper II, stage).

One wonders when the groups evidence will be available for scrutiny by the appointed court, its jurors able tohear/absorb the evidence, conclude their deliberations and present their verdict to its judge.

Along with the rules/internationally agreements that define such things, that the alleged guilty party has allegedly broken.

Here is a link to a video illustrating Asian history, which starts at 9,000 BCE.

Where in the world is the genocide and other human rights abuse - we only know from our MSM.

And we know very well that the MSM tell us what they want. How we had believed all the bad things about Afghanistan, Saddam, Khaddafi, Assad? And now about Uighurs.

It reminds me our 'arry'... We never hear from him an outrage about other huge abuse, similarly as we do not hear it on MSM.

What they do not want they do not tell, it does not happen, no need to be outraged.

I have been searching on some pictures of the Uighurs plight, seeing many in these days in TV how they queue for food, nicely and warm dressed up, perhaps it's not so easy to get their pictures - as also in other cases the case is: no pictures of the migrating kids at the South Wall.

Of course, no pictures of MSM, only somebody steals in:
On 22 March, a Texas lawmaker released the first photos of the child detention camps from the Biden era.

Child migrants: What is happening at the US border? - BBC News

And of course, something about Rohingya, plight of millions in Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kiy accused of genocide by ICJ and UN, but no outrage of "international Community" - she is back now in headlines, but not because of Rohingya.

What has the international response been?
A report published by UN investigators in August 2018 accused Myanmar's military of carrying out mass killings and rapes with "genocidal intent".

The ICJ case, lodged by the small Muslim-majority nation of The Gambia, in West Africa, on behalf of dozens of other Muslim countries, called for emergency measures to be taken against the Myanmar military, known as Tatmadaw, until a fuller investigation could be launched.

Aung San Suu Kyi rejected allegations of genocide when she appeared at the court in December 2019.

It appears that a report regarding human rights in one unexceptional country has been published today.

China issues report on US human rights violations

    Xinhua | Updated: 2021-03-24 16:05

"BEIJING -- China's State Council Information Office on Wednesday issued the Report on Human Rights Violations in the United States in 2020.

    The report said....."

    Continues here:

China issues report on US human rights violations - World - Chinadaily.com.cn

A complete full text can be downloaded here:

    https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/pdf/2021/ReportonHumanRightsViolationsintheUnitedStatesin20 20.doc

One wonders if similar reports will be forthcoming for additional countries.

It's a total fabrication by the US state department to put sanctions on China. Just like the lead up to the Yugoslav and Iraq wars. Both which I fully believed in and supported. But then after Ukraine and Syria , I couldn't help but notice the lies and nonsense. And I don't like to get lied to.

Being a dissident isn't that fun sometimes. I totally understand why someone would chose to believe it all and just carry on supporting it like you do.

Skidmark, I'll talk to you as though you're an adult with the mental faculties of one.

There are many aspects of US foreign policy I dislike (vis-a-vis Iran, Cuba etc etc etc etc . . . ) but this isn't one of them. That hardlymakes me an apologist for the US.
    Here's the rub;
I like what I like and dislike what I dislike and comment on both.
You think any sleight on those you feel are downtrodden (Russia, China etc..) is terrible and all-encompassing, more than that - you become an apologist for dictatorships, totalitarian regimes . . . possibly because you think it makes you look edgy and you just like 'tough guys'.

Now you're saying that China's human rights abuses and attempted genocide are US myths . . .

Would you at least agree that China is committing a genocide against the Uighurs?
No, I wouldn't. How can you be committing a genocide if the population is still rising? I despise the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine for example, but I don't even accuse them of genocide (yet), for the same reason. As for 'cultural genocide', there are over 10,000 Mosques in Xinjiang. Such mosques as seem to be targeted belong to the evil Salafist cult- the same bunch that have spawned AQ, Isil, the Bali bombings, and the Uyghur terrorist organisation that wants a Caliphate in east Turkmenistan. They have been responsible for several terrorist atrocitiies in China and elsewhere- including the Erawan shrine bombing in Bkk.

By all means talk of repression, and how this may violate your belief in individual human rights, but when you talk of 'genocide' in Xinjiang it is pretty obvious to me you are just being propagandised.

Here, check this out- it's by an ex-Brit bobby who actually lives in China, and bicycled through Xinjiang with his wife & a mate-

China has over 50 ethnic nationalities with very strong roots. And considering the cultural revolution and other turmoils for centuries before, with a generous help of "developers", who would wonder about some problems of the 1.4 B population.

Nevertheless, the differences are managed, surely much better than the differences in other developed countries...

And beside all the troubles, they (the Chinese) have managed to develop the country within 30 years to an incredible grade, envied by others. Pity that we are not told much about that development (beside the unbiased remarks of our "chinkies" expert).

A very exceptional (and rare) case was here few days ago an account by Bill Maher.

Otherwise we know only about Uighurs...

(some call this information war a brainwashing...)

The old tried and true practice.
If the official/unofficial line is repeated often and loud enough - all becomes true/real.

    "Documentaries"

And for HooHoo's next entertaining show we'll be watching a "documentary" about Jewish steam train fans taking gleeful rides across Europe in the '40s, courtesy of a Mr. J. Goebbels.
