    Pope Francis visiting Iraq

Pope Francis embarks on historic visit to Iraq

Pope arrives in Baghdad on a first-ever papal visit to comfort the dwindling Christian communities of Mesopotamia decimated by years of conflict.

The visit of the pope has a highly symbolic value given the importance of Iraqi Christians in the history of the faith and their cultural and linguistic legacy dating back to the time of ancient Babylon, nearly 4,000 years ago [Reuters]

Pope Francis begins a historic visit to Iraq on Friday, the first by a pontiff to the birthplace of the Eastern Churches from where more than a million Christians have fled over the past 20 years.

An Alitalia plane carrying the pontiff and his entourage, including about 75 journalists, arrived in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Friday at about 2pm local time amid tight security.

It's hard to imagine the security that must be in place. I think the trip is very risky but hope all goes well for His Holiness. I'd trust Iraqi security about as far as I could throw them, not very damn far.

This pope is a social justice warrior lefty putz. I hope somebody has a shoulder fired missile ready for him.

Iraqi Christians survived and thrived under Saddam Hussein. But they are dying under American democracy

Common dickface. This is teakdoor. That's just my way of saying that I disapprove of this pope. Do I really want him to die in a fiery plane crash ? No.

I stayed with a family in Einkawa, Erbil in N Iraq back in 2011. Life became intolerable for them, like many other Assyrian Christians in Iraq. They now live in Sydney, Oz. I met them there for dinner a couple of years ago. They will be a great asset to Australia. Highly educated professionals, intelligent with a sense of respect for community. Iraq can ill affor to lose them. It's one of the reasons the country is in a death spiral.

Not only is the first pontiff visiting Iraq but almost the first big guy who dares to come announced driving in an (almost) open car through the Baghdad streets.

And whether he got under his frog a bullet-proof vest as other brave statesmen (if any) coming on a surprise "friendly" visit - even not disclosing to the wife where the trip is heading?

Is that a pontifical frog? Catholic at the very least? Either way, clearly the frog would be better read than you

Terrorists wouldn't kill the pope. In fact they will take very great care to make sure he's not killed.

The last thing they want to do is give the people that would like to bomb them out of existence the perfect excuse.

Of course that's way too complex for our resident fucking thickies to understand.

Pity to seeing him limping worse than myself one week after hip replacement. Or didn't the dottore in Vatican state hospital make it to him so perfect like they can do in Thailand?

BTW, seeing how he was climbing the stairs up when boarding his plane HF1 (Heaven Force 1) in Rome, carrying a heavy briefcase...
No one to help him? Or does he carry with him some secret dox or a pushbutton to a heaven nuke?

You mean Creepy Hat , he thinks he's a Kraut. or a Malay or some EU country or who fuking cares it changes so much.

Balders ain't Kraut, he has some semblance of humor, does irony too, but he is fixated on cast metal blown up so could have kraut DNA poor chap, explains some things.

OK hal so stop sharing your info with them then. Quite frankly i have no idea what drives people to bother themselves to find where people have houses and them actively engage in a campaign of baiting them with that knowledge. If you want to support that then up to you. It makes my skin crawl quite frankly.
