The biggest threat to America's way of life

A pretty startling set of numbers.

    Results from a CBS poll:

The biggest threat to America's way of life comes not from foreign threats but from inside the country, from “other people in America, and domestic enemies.”

    Foreign threats - 8%
    Natural disasters - 17%
    Economic forces - 20%
Other people in America, and domestic enemies - 54%

    The destruction of the Unions.
Union wages benefits and Security created the American middle class, and the American dream.

Unfortunately not a current threat. Haven't they already been screwed ? Good point though...Australia remains a great country because the unions were not quite as screwed over as in the US.

IMO there is always time to revive them, if we stop fighting against our own best interest.
When I see these idiots cheering for a NYC real estate developer who came down a golden escalator, I am reminded of the cattle cheering for the butcher on their way to the slaughterhouse.
Capital , even if it wanted to, cannot individually do the right thing, because if they did, and their competition did not, the competition will put them out of business.
So it becomes a race to the bottom. To that add automation , and without collective bargaining labor is screwed, and so is the middle class.
Collective bargaining levels the playing field, not only for labor, but also for Capital ,because it forches all to play by the same rules.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

No greed in the corporate world then? I read somewhere that wealth inequality in America is greater now than it was in Roman times.

Oh, to a far greater extent . . . but corporate is still seen as providing a source of income and it is definitely an 'employer's market', especially when you have tens of millions of undereducated people, like in the US, who have zero savings and rely on these corporations to pay them peanuts

I don't know about that, but certainly the US ranks last in western countries

I won't insult all Americans by calling many stupid, but it seems to many Australians that the level of education in the US has dropped dramatically in the last 50 years, so that many appear rather ignorant of the world outside America. And this ignorance is a major part of the problem, and corporate America has probably encouraged it all, so help produce malleable workers.

...what exactly is the "American way of life" that is threatened? Tacos trucks? Soccer popularity? Scantily clad women? Mormons? Agro-industrial complexes? Pink slime burgers?...

(sigh) ..Yes, we have our rednecks. General education seems to be deteriorating in both countries.

    But yours more than mine

Perhaps only seems that way because you have 10 times our population ?

By propagandisation, cancel culture, groupthink, compliant media, and corporatisation in general. How far have you really progressed from McCarthy?

People of today need to realise the USA of tomorrow will be far worse with the Dumbocrats running the show. I say that in the complete understanding there are people rich beyond my wildest dreams who need to be seriously looked at and investigated for any maleficence against the public good...but that is unlikely to happen. I maybe a right wing conservative but I do believe no man should amass a huge fortune by dubious means.

Yeah because domestic terrorism, an out-of-control pandemic, a weakened position and a budget deficit blow-out under Trump has been so awesome.

    propagandisation---- Yes for sure.

    cancel culture---- Not so much

    groupthink---- Meh

compliant media---- Media in the US is all over the place and being controlled by...

    ...corporatisation and oligarchs.

That said freedom of speech is not infringed at all. What you are talking about is dumbing down and brainwashing.

how strange that whilst thailand imprisons a woman for 80 years for her facebook posts, china imprisons hundreds of thousands in forced labour concentration camps because of their religion, iran publicly executes gays and horrific massacres occur on a regular basis thanks to the despotic regimes in africa, todays obsessed self loathing blinkered and dumb social justice warriors cocooned in their echo chambers can see no further than a temporary aberration of american politics called trump.

Odd that Obama presided over the largest economic period of growth in American history. Even more hilarious is that your orange moron basically road his coattails.

Exactly 11 years ago today, February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 or the Recovery Act into law. The $831 billion in spending kicked off the longest period of economic growth and job creation in American history.
