Naming two people seems to be typical of this award, which is obviously aimed solely at boosting circulation.

Every year they seem to have some dumb stunt or another.

'Time' and 'Newsweek' ... I wonder who on earth still buys them?

People who like lots of pics and little news used to be the target group, but one would have thought the internet had that market cornered by now.

Of course, but on subscription - and with so many publications available on the web that are free . . . the last Time I got on a flight was barely more than 20 ages long and my longtime favourite 'The Economist' simply wasn't the same as most of the articles had had real time udates elsewhere

Yeah, I meant available for free.

'The Economist' sadly was just never equipped to battle the internet.

Might be more telling as to why they still exist and understanding their historic origins - both being smaller subsidiaries of mega-media corporations.
In a truer and competitive world, they would cease to have a place....traditional hard copy or electronic editions.

In a dumbed down world, they thrive.

I never saw anyone in a shop buy a copy.

Only ever seen at company reception tables and airlines.
