Maradona's funeral tomorrow in Buenos Aires with over a million expected to attend. Mourning in Naples for days and the whole world has stood to attention for him; he is a man who came from absolutely nothing but became the best footballer in the world.

Despite his flaws, he deserves to be spoken of as the best ever player in the greatest sport ever along with Pele and only the bitterest - hello our little In-ger-lund-ers- would ever deny this.

It is a very sad day for football to see him die and he was a genius. Simple.

Without doubt an amazing talent but played against opponents who were not as well prepared and trained as the players of today are.

In my opinion Messi has shown similar talents and proved himself over a long period against far more organised and prepared opponents and deserves the title as the best ever.

And done this without the need of stimulants and without having to cheat.

Don't worry about the pictures like the one I posted. If that pic was real the goalkeeper must have came down from above by climbing down a beanstalk.

Glad I cleared that up for you.
    Dirk is Scottish, Katie.

You can read into the above post as you will, but let me just say that I'm yet to meet a jock who is sad to see England fail!

Never trust a sweaty sock (and on this occasion it was blatant!)

Iīve just greened you and said I agreed with you (to a certain extent), LT.

Look at that vid I posted though. He came from absolute poverty and was a sheer entertainer who became the best in the world. An absolute genius.

The stimulants fucked him up. You canīt play football when you're sniffed up or pissed.

He played football better than anyone, shagged loads of birds and had a good sniff and booze as well.

Hard to see what's wrong with that really.

    RIP Diego.

Of course death through conflict isn't funny. I'm a former Royal Marine who served in some of the units involved in the war, and had friends who didn't come back from there. Just adding a note of black humour.

plus he's a Mancunian United fan who knows Manchester and Gorton...

..now if that isn't black humour where my ex-girlfriend was from then I don't know what it is!

    God bless West Gorton! :-)

Even black humour has to have a certain semblance to humour.

I have not served, I was in our navy. 'Serving' is a word I associate with Americans and their 'whoohoo' military but it's a job or vocation one wants to do or has to do, but that's neither here nor there.

I'm not down on PAG, I just find it very uncharacteristic of him as I have always seen in him a sensitivity that is endearing and commendable. I didn't know he was in the military, but knowing that now makes me think higher of him for having those attributes.

Having said that I still find it very insensitive and not funny, not even worthy of being 'black/dark humour'. This stuff appeals to mental midgets and minor wannabe-thugs like chico, Dill and quite a few other Brits on here or the likes of Klondyke or OhOh who would happily laugh at deaths of British military men and women.

Imagine someone here had posted a picture of British seamen/marines etc... with limbs missing and blind from the conflict and captioned it with 'I bet they wish they could see it and applaud it now - har har'. Not funny by any stretch of the imagination.

Anyway, enough from me about that - it's just my opinion and you are welcome to disagree.

On behalf of what or who?

You got me there, big guy . . . I don't find pedophilia nor dead soldiers funny.

It's my opinion, Armstrong, deal with it. You find either or both funny, go for your life.

Don't want to detract from the tributes to Maradona's skills as a footballer, if not his persona as a person. He was certainly beloved by his nation, though you have to get into context that his era of playing was in the years in the aftermath of the Falklands War, and Argentina as a country were in desperate need of a moral boost. That the 'hand of God' incident happened against England made that all the more satisfying to them.

Re 'served', never though that this was a term solely for Americans, for those who did are inevitably termed servicemen/women.

A couple of anecdotes. In the late 90's, I was working in the Falkland Islands. My company house was a newly Scandinavian style chalet in 'Sir Jeremy Moore Close'. Sir Jeremy Moore was Major General commanding the land forces during the war. He was also my CO as a Lt Col when I was in 42 Commando. If I looked out of my bedroom window, I looked straight up to Two Sisters, the hills taken by 45 Commando, my last unit before I left the Corps.

Whilst working there, I had to make a business trip to Argentina. This entailed flying to Punta Arenas in Chile, then onto Santiago, then onto Buenos Aries where I had a couple of meetings before flying down to Comodoro Rivadavia. The home port of the Belgrano was near Comodoro.

One day I'd returned from a meeting to the hotel I was staying (The Comodoro Hotel) to find the bar packed with military officers. They'd just had their annual commemoration service at the memorial at the seafront. Now, I'm almost certainly the only Brit in town, plus I'm a former Royal Marine working in the Falklands. My home at the time was in Spain, so had some rudimentary Spanish. Anyway, got in company with some of these guys who could not have been nicer, and were very appreciative how their injured and prisoners of war had been treated by the British.

    The memorial in Comodoro Rivadavia.

Their welcome to the region wasn't quite as welcoming as yours. Though they were kinda asking for it.

Maradonna reminds me of good old Georgie Best, who was asked- 'What happened to all of your money?'.
He answered "Most of it I spent on women and booze. The rest I just wasted".

Another anecdote was the room service waiter who entered the room to find Best in bed with two Miss World's, and the bedclothes covered in money.

Apparently he said "Where did it all go wrong, Mr. Best?".
