    less is always moore.

and connery was just another arrogant jock meathead riding his luck, he was a hopeless adulterer with a fierce temper who thought nothing of slapping his women. most of his films outside of the bond franchise were flops and when he realised that he couldnt make it as a serious actor he returned to making a couple of bond films and trousering the fat fees, which were always his primary motivation.

Connery’s career appeared to be entering another trough, which is one reason why, at 52, he chose to eat his words and make one more Bond film. Another was the $5 million fee. A third was his rivalry with Roger Moore, who had taken over the role. Never Say Never Again was to be produced by Jack Schwartzman in direct competition with Broccoli, who failed to stop it in the courts. Connery threw himself into the project but it was unsuccessful, losing out to Moore’s Octopussy. Roquebrune told a journalist the film had been “a nightmare” and one review concluded: “Let’s say never again.”
he turned in a couple of decent performances in the name of the rose and the untouchables. but otherwise he, and his publicity machine, succeeded in hoodwinking a gullible public into believing he was some kind of acting genius, when in reality, he was just an angry and arrogant sweaty sock with few redeeming features.

Shouldn't we require for such magnificent movie(s) of a high cultural value an actor with more characteristic presentation? Somebody like Jack Nicholson, Harrison Ford, Nick Nolte, Dustin Hofman, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, ... Or Danny Devito? (and no wifebeater...)

    Such a waste...

Yes, your posts are yet you continue to post . . . imagine that.

So, care to share with us where you hail from so your country's actors/politicians/airlines/economy etc... can be scrutinised as you constantly do others?

We know it's some east 'European' cesspit . . . but which one? Czech republic or Hungary would be ok. Slovenia and Slovakia . . . ok. But you're no from there, are you.

Come on, for fairness' sake . . . you always, with every post, denigrate anything western - how does your country of origin stack up?

With all due respect, we're not exactly comparing Laurence Olivier & John Gielgud here. Just enjoy the movies.

You are quite right. When spending few days in 80's in London I was utmost fortunate to see John Gielgud live in a theater...

In the 80s you weren't allowed out of your country. Do you miss that? Which country was that? You seem quite shy about that, why?

It was "40 Years On" where John Gielgud had excelled many years ago in. I even did not know he would play in it when in hurry looking for suitable theatre night. And I have to admit I hadn't understood all (what my friendly stalker will surely doubt), spoken in different languages of pre-WW2 London, prof. Higgins would be very happy to hear them all.

Similarly, I too hadn't understood all when another night in another theatre seeing The Caveman, a brilliant one-man play with a (for me) unknown young actor (he surely will be known now), presenting so many different characters, male and females. During his performance surely nobody would fall asleep.

And few other nights I was lucky and fortunate to see and hear performances, where I could understand all. One was with wonderful Lena Horne singing there with Big Band every night for the whole month.

Another incredible show I saw was Singin' in the Rain with Tommy Steel.

So when in London, do not waste the nights with drinking a beer in a pub.

So, which country do you hail from?

The 'iron curtain' came down i 1991 . . . travel to the west was virtually impossible until then . . . hard currency for theatre visits were unaffordable . . . Yugoslavia being a slight bit looser.

    So . . . it's be fascinating to know from whence you hail . . .

. . . and now posting on a Sean Connery/James Bond thread where you would have been cast as the Communist villain
