His youngest rape victim was 13, and he raped and bludgeoned to death an 18 year old store clerk.

Somehow I don't think his fellow inmates are going to accept his "apology".

I really hope he suffers for as long as possible. He should live in fear every single day.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A former police officer once sworn to protect the public was sentenced Friday to life without parole after he was ultimately unmasked as the mysterious Golden State Killer who eluded his fellow investigators for four decades.

Joseph James DeAngelo, 74, will die in prison after he pleaded guilty in June to 13 murders and 13 rape-related charges stemming from crimes in the 1970s and 1980s under a plea deal that spares him the death penalty. He also publicly admitted to dozens more sexual assaults for which the statute of limitations had expired.

Judge Michael Bowman sentenced him Friday at Sacramento State University.

Before he was officially sentenced, DeAngelo said: "I've listened to all your statements, each of them. And I'm truly sorry to everyone I've hurt."

There is no perhaps, you are an idiot. This man terrorized California for years, and was a cop. Guilty and he apologized in court for it. I am sorry but having known one of the victims I can easily say you are a piece of shit.

Ya this piece of shit was especially heinous. He raped and murdered a woman in front of her husband iirc. To bad California abolished the death penalty because if anyone deserves it, it is this scumbag.

This is why I've always supported capital punishment; it doesn't need to be used just because it's available, and sure it's known to have offed innocent people, but it's a valuable option for extreme levels of savagery where guilt is clear through detailed confession including knowledge of events that only the killer would know.

for those interested, there's a recent hbo documentary series called, "i'll be gone in the dark" that is more or less about this guy and his crimes.

There's a better series called "Unmasking a Killer" - not so much about Patton Oswald's late wife.

The injustice is him and his like will suck up a vast amount of taxpayer money to fund his incarceration, that will need to be diverted from more deserving public programs. One can possibly hope for some disease that will speed along his journey to meet his maker in the very near future.

Let's hope his fellow inmates make his life a misery, too. If anyone ever deserved a bit of prison justice, he does.

I don't disagree with wishing him the worst, but in pure money terms it's far cheaper to give him natural life over execution, which involves among other things several appeals that take years and cost millions.

It happened to Jeffrey Dahmer and the California penal system is especially brutal. Some of the worst in the nation. Pelican bay, San Quentin etc. Do not drip your soap there. Just google those names to see some of the most brutal prison fights you can imagine.
