Yes ant.
Yes ant.
A monument to your preservation work for irrelevant statues?
I must say though dave...I'd lay dollars to doughnuts that you only found that out a couple of hours ago.
So rather than wondering why it's only coming to light now, which is pretty obvious really (white history), maybe it's more constructive to reflect on how much more enlightened so many of this planet's people can become thanks to straightforward, no-cost action like this.
Just removing a statue can likely help educate millions.
What an inspiring way to start a new month in these troubled times.
You really are utterly oblivious to anything beyond your basic needs, aren't you chico?
You'd better get back to working on that bargirl English.
You could fit at least one more "now" in that I reckon.Originally Posted by Chico

Aha . . . sure . . .
Nothing 'befell' them David, they were massacred. Something 'befalling' someone is a passive act, being murdered is active and aggressive.
My sensitivities, whether or not they are applicable here, are irrelevant . . . and you're not 'reporting' anything, you're copying and pasting articles which you had no hand in researching.
You were quite straddling the fence for a while, but which direction you've fallen is perfectly clear. And as for Dill being his own man, of course and he just thrives on bullshit which swings his way.
How about posting incendiary and misleading 'news' only to then admit that it isn't real news . . . <ha ha> and not to take it seriously. People like Dill feel empowered the more this type of opinion is voiced.
I'm a bit disappointed i David, thought he was more level-headed
Oh well according to the squirrel history is now defined by colour, what a complete mental case.
Re PH's post above ...
1/ The surprise and my lack of knowledge re the Congolese massacre.
I had no idea about it.
Does that make me poorly educated?
I didn't do History @ School, I did a Maths/Physics major.
As a mature age student I studied at University, completed a Business Degree at Honours level and topped my State in Quantitative Analysis ... received a Golden Key award for same.
I believe in life long learning ... I learnt something through this.
2/ "Befell" ... does not the use of the word "catastrophe" before "befell" indicate the appropriate level of seriousness.
When you Google for the meaning of the word, the example used is that "a tragedy befell his daughter" ... so the use of the term "catastrophe which befell the Congolese" is entirely appropriate.
3/ It's News PH ... which I am 'reporting'. Am I 'researching' it? ... nope.
Does MissKit 'research' her news items? ... nope. She simply reports them.
4/ My private opinions are just that ... private.
I'm just reporting a news item.
If the BBC/CNBC/ABC etc puts it up as news worthy then ... it's simply news worthy.
Do I have an opinion of things ... sure, but I'd reserve that for Speakers Corner.
You can make your own mind up which 'side of the fence I have fallen to'.
I rarely defend my actions, but I have respect for you as a Member and I felt you deserved an appropriate response.
PH, if you feel there is a bias in News Items I report, by all means post up items which you think balance the argument.
It causes confusion when you c+p things without quotes. You did it the other day with somethng containing the word 'purported'.
You posted it up as your comment, but 'purported' just isn't a 'dave word'.
Sure enough...I google searched it and you'd copy pasted it.
I'm not saying quotes and sources are always essential. Often it's obvious that something is a quote. However in the op here it is not obvious and you clearly confused hugh cow, for example.
Admittedly that doesn't take much.
You responded to hugh by saying that your op was 'News' and 'factual'. It was neither - it was an op ed piece. It says so on the link you later put up.
^^ Humm ... not really sure of the issue.
It's the World news part of the forum.
None of the words in the OP are mine.
They are not my opinions, the news item was written in a conversational style.
I gave the accreditation for the story AND a second link if someone wanted to read a different take on the same story.
Don't know what else I could have done.
And I can't imagine why on earth the issue wouldn't be clear.
Oh well.
You could have done it initially before the confusion was caused, and as I've posted it wasn't a 'one off'.
It is not a news item.
It's an op-ed piece.
Op-ed - WikipediaAn op-ed, short for "opposite the editorial page", is a written prose piece typically published by a newspaper or magazine which expresses the opinion of an author usually not affiliated with the publication's editorial board.[1]
The pictures of people with chopped off arms, shocked me as a kid
Maybe you were sick that day, or could be that it wasn't an issue in Aus. ( you are aussie, right ?)
At the time when S Africa was boycotted by most of the world, Aus and NZ, still couldn't see the problem.
Do not ignore or forget Leopold

Yeah I do. The actions of a private body like the NZRU don't reflect the govt. and clearly because it sparked massive protests and backlash not the majority of the people either.Originally Posted by helge
The problem was 'very much seen'.
For 56 days in July, August and September 1981, New Zealanders were divided against each other in the largest civil disturbance seen since the 1951 waterfront dispute. The cause of this was the visit of the South African rugby team – the Springboks.
It was seen
Hmm
I am sure the NZ government could have added a bit of pressure, if it wanted.

Didn't the Tours have widespread public support ?
